Doesn't matter. If his toe was on the line, he broke the plane of the goal line.

This is absolutely incorrect. The goal line is part of the endzone.

The plane of the goal is the outside edge of the goal line. When a ballcarrier gets the ball to even cross a microscopic edged of the goal its a touchdown. For a safety to be called in the situation last night the returned would have had to clearly cross over the line instead of stepping on it and not actually crossing it since he is approaching it from the opposite direction than a ball carrier on offense.

So are you saying that the plane is only breakable in one direction where the goal line is concerned? That's ridiculous.

no, i am saying that a plane cannot be represented by a wide line, because a plane is infinitely narrow. and the plane is represented by the front edge of the line, when approaching it from the field. all points past that plane are inside the endzone.

No, I did not say that.

I said the goal line is part of the endzone.

Obviously when trying to score if the nose of the ball is touching the plane of the endzone, or the goal line, then it is a touchdown.

I suppose if you must use the word plane in this...... then in order to break the plane of the endzone when coming out of the endzone, then one would have to completely cross the goal line with some part of his body, such as a toe perhaps.

Ah well, moot point. No safety called, we win anyway.
