Let's say I have my heart set on a steak from Ruth's Chris. I go into the restaurant and order a steak. The waiter says, sorry, sir, but there are many excellent seafood selections on the menu and you must consider them before I can put your steak order in. I ask why and the waiter responds that the restaurant will get fined by the International Seafood Association if I don't, at least, consider a seafood selection. Miami wants Saban and have virtually offered him the job, but, to avoid a fine, they must interview a minority candidate. What minority person with an ounce of pride would even subject himself to such a blatant charade. Again I ask: How stupid is that?
Very stupid, but it may just force Nick to decline because of the amount of time it would take to set all those interviews up. I know Saban used us for the NFL, but I do also think he has too much class to just dump the University on it's head by signing with Miami during the dead period and making it hard to get a new coach in time to save the recruiting class. He may do it, and I'd be dissapointed, but he doesn't strike me as a the kind of guy to do that to an institution that has been loyal to him. I hope Miami drags this out for another 2 weeks, or even better, decides to wait until Jan. 2 to interview current NFL assistants
Then it gets even more ridiculous when the International Advancement for Seafood boycotts a school for ordering steak...see South Carolina. I hope Miami offers Saban the job and does not drag it out. I don't want Saban staying put b/c Miami ran out of time. I want him to stay put b/c this is the place he wants to be.
