OK, the earlier maps were lining up on Morgan City. None of these tracks go there, but an average of the 6 would still put MC dead center, and we know these tracks are never right. Should I feel better or worse now?
The NHC track has it turning more westerly...maybe it will spare LA...but this track is not good either...brushing the coast. That will bring a hell of a lot of rain and waves.
Still too soon to tell.. if it were me, I'd get everything secured and head for higher ASAP ground just incase.
Avoid Exxon and Mobil and the cheapies e.g. Racetrack, etc. Also, do not use the higher octanes because people are avoiding them because of the cost and the gas just sits there unmoving allowing moisture to accumulate. I use Chevron or Citgo whenever possible.
I've been through 8 of these things and no matter what the models are saying, it's still way too early to tell where it's going. During Elena back in '86, the thing was tracking right towards Florida, then almost overnight it made a U-turn and had a direct hit on the MS Gulf Coast. At this point, you don't have to leave yet, but you should be stocking up on non-perishables and making evacuation plans. If not, by the time the track becomes more clear, all the food and batteries will be gone and all the hotels full. BTW, gas has gone up nearly .20 a gallon since predictions of a US landfall were announced. Once again, corporate greed rears it's ugly head.
The high over LA is what will S L O W Gusgus down as it approaches. It all has to do with timing, but a low in Mexico isn't the one to watch...it's a low coming down from the northwest that could suck it up and turn it more north and east. The high would slide to the east and north, and Gustav would try to split the middle. Anyone remember Opal? I woke up in the middle of the night at home in Metairie, and Opal had jogged due north as it passed directly south of Venice. But the next morning, there was Opal, slamming ashore in Fort Walton Beach, FL. Same thing with Ivan, except slightly further west than Opal. This one? I have a similar feeling...except even slightly more west than Ivan.

Chevron is cool, but Citgo is owned by Venezuela and Hugo Chavez, an avowed and vocal enemy of the US. I don't give them a dime. They are nationalizing US oil companies in Venezuela, we should return the favor.
