All the talk of Nick Saban sending out feeler rumors leads to an interesting question - what is this guy really worth now? When Saban left LSU, it was a departure keeping in character. That is, Saban moved on for a higher level of play after reaching some threshold of achievement. Currently he is only 2 years into coaching Miami, and is still in the turnaround process. A move now would be considered premature by most, but if Saban does not see a bright light yet, Spurrier and others have certainly shown him where the tunnel leads. Likewise, 2003 is only moving farther into the past. So what is an AD really getting by hiring Saban? Certainly we know the stong points. But will more questions arise, the sort he once could avoid, but now might negatively effect his worth? Will he be thought of as simply a short term fix, not a play for the long term? Worse, would there be a fear Saban would leave unexpectedly before bringing a measure of accomplishment. Will he appeal to an AD facing near-term retirement, but not one who might fear facing this same routine five years later. Perhaps some might say a coach in Saban's position must always have feelers out because you never know what tomorrow brings. But supposing Saban and his agent were truly pondering a move back to college ball, I can't help but think his universal appeal and value is somewhat diminished even if his abilities remain the same. Saban will have to find a school that not only meets his demands, but is willing to accept certain unknowns.
Saban made his bed and now he needs to rot in it. If he would leave Miami after only 2 years and the way he left LSU in the lurch and not having the balls to do it here in Baton Rouge but from the road, speaks VOLUMES about this guys character. Yeah I know he won us a title and all but were he to come back we would all have to be worried about him just up and leaving for greenier pastures.
He left for his dream job, he's building something at Miami, he will be there for at least the next 5 years and probably longer. Nick Saban is fine.
Saban will be gone after next year if he has another year similar to the last two. Miami probably won't make the playoffs this year (they must not lose another game to even have a shot at the playoffs at this point). Joey Harrington is not a long term solution at QB. Daunte Culpepper is finished.
I doubt he is going anywhere. Saban is at his "dream job" :geauxtige :geauxtige :geauxtige :geauxtige
I as well agree Saban will likely stay in Miami into next year. My question, though, is not whether he will stay or not. Rather, if the rumors were true, that Saban is actively courting college positions right now, what would his worth be now, and does his history hurt him?
No. But that championship ring on his finger makes him the hottest commodity out there, make no bones about it.
You can't be serious. Huizenga is one of the best owners out there, and he knows it takes time to build a team. Especially a team that's been Spielmanned and Wannstedted.
Read the Shula thread. Saban raised the spirits of LSU fans from "Brook Trout Look" to we are equal to USC, in four years. We went from Ole Miss's bitch in 98 and 99 to National Champs in 03. Some LSU Fans may have forgotten but there are plenty of others that took notice and still remember. I suspect he could still earn a good living in college if he decides to return.
