Based on his 1 career TD pass, or his countless handoff to RB's in garbage time? The guy has attempted 7 passes in his career, (all in mop up duty) and has completed less than half of them, and has only ran the ball 4 times for 25 yards. You don't get tabbed the startin QB by the head coach of the #2 team in the nation unless he thinks you're the best shot. EASIER?!!? Stop listening to ESPN. We averaged close to as many pts per game as USC that year, won by a larger avg margin of victory against a tougher schedule, held opponents to fewer points than SC (yes our opponents avg more pts per game than SC's oppponents), Mauck led the SEC in QB rating AND TD passes (that's right he beat golden boy Eli), routed Auburn, Bama, South Carolina, Arky, and UGA down the stretch. How much freaking easier to you want it to be?!!? The last one wasn't?
And Flynn's started two games, and his other reps were mostly in garbage time. So, based on his high school record and the opinions of paid scouts and prep ranking services. First, I don't listen to ESPN. I watch ESPN for the games, only. I don't even watch SportsCenter anymore. Second, I want dominance. No close calls. Comparisons to the best teams ever. But, I'll settle for going undefeated, and not having to sweat out the last few weeks, rooting for Hawaii to beat Wyoming (or whatever that game was). It was, but it was tainted by the media. This time, I want no doubting Thomases saying my team wasn't the best.
I think you ang my stepdad should do some group therapy together. It's called the "Let Go, You Have No Control." There's a reason you're not paid to think football, and this here is pretty good evidence why.
Last night Perrilloux finally showed some flashes of why he was a 5 star recruit. I wouldn't be suprised to see RP get a series or two in big games.
Compared to 0 starts and all snaps in garbage time. Advantage Flynn. Completely irrelevant on a college football field. That's what they call guessing. Another example of guessing: Lots of PAID experts (former players, former coaches, odds makers, etc. etc.) thought for sure Ohio State was better than Florida last year. Sometimes guesses are wrong. You don't make decisions off of guesses. A wise decision :thumb: 40 - 3 vs a top 10 opponent, who statistically had a top 5 defense going into the game. 45-0 against a team who by all accounts is supposed to be better than the one we beat by 31 last year. 2 starts, 2 victories, avg. margin of victory = 42.5 points. That fits the description of dominance. Kinda like that USC team that got beat in the MNC game? Or do you prefer that Oklahoma team that got beat by us in '03? Which our starting QB currently is right now. We are currently unbeaten, and #2 in the country. And in case you missed it last night, we are closer to USC (poll pts) than #3 (WVU) is to us. This is completely different than starting a season outside the top 10 like we did in our last title run. No matter what the media says, we have this :crystal: from that season. It's called THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHY. We are the only team in the country that was awarded :crystal: after the '03 season. No, seriously, we have :crystal: I saw it with my own eyes.
Advantage sure, but it's hardly conclusive. I've never said Flynn should be replaced now or even in the future. Just that I don't have a lot of confidence in his abilities and wonder it Perrilloux wouldn't give us a better shot at running the table. Guesses? So all this recruiting stuff is just guesswork? Schools fight for months over these kids and it's just random chance? The comparison b/w scouts evaluating a player and pundits predicting the outcome of a game isn't a comparison at all. It's two completely different things that require completely different methods of evaluation made by two completely different pools of people. It's no more meaningful than saying people lose money in the stock market so the scouts might be wrong about player x. Again, it's just two games. And, one of them was two seasons ago. It's really not that meaningful in predicting what will happen next. What happens when the defense doesn't force six turnovers and the running game doesn't dominate? Not sure what those teams have to do with anything. Are you suggesting that accolades like those are a curse? Would you not want the 2007 Tigers to be considered among the best teams in history? The point was that we had to sweat it out b/c we had one loss. It helps that we are highly ranked now, but the voters are a fickle lot. I don't want to give them any reason to deny LSU a shot at the title. Yes, I understand that, and I'll be among the first to point out to whomever is listening that there was only one national champion in 2003, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't rather not have to.
All I'm saying is that we have seen Flynn win in blowout fashion TWICE. We have NOTHING on RP but scouting reports. Scouting reports have been known to be wrong. Educated guesses, but yes they are guesses. The point of the matter, whether you're predicting the future greatness of a player, or who's gonna win the Cal/Tenn game, or what stock is going to make you millions this year, or how much rain is going to fall this weekend, you are doing nothing more than making an educated guess. What will Perriloux do on the road in the SEC when he's not already up by 38 and in an empty stadium? Nobody knows the answer to either of these questions. What they have to do with it is this. Both were touted as "The Greatest Team Ever", how much good did that do them? We play in the TOUGHEST conference in college football. Losses will happen. Peyton Manning never went unbeaten. Expecting our guys to do it is a bit much. :thumb: Their opinion doesn't matter, :crystal: does.
I hear what you are saying. Believe me. Flynn's the guy right now, and he should be. I have my doubts, but I'll hope for the best. I'll pull for him the same way I pull for everyone else in purple and gold. I don't think Perrilloux should start against VA Tech. That would be crazy. But somewhere down the line, I think we might need his talent and playmaking ability. Like I said in the other thread, college football can be cruel. One slip up, even if you've played the toughest schedule. Even if you truly are the best team. You might still be denied your shot. I think there's a pretty good chance that one of those Big East teams is going to go unbeaten. I want to be sure we get our shot. I realize that an unbeaten season in the SEC is a very tall order, but it's not impossible. Auburn did it. This LSU team can do it to. I simply want this team to be as good as it can be and have reservations about Flynn being the one to make that so.
My whole point so far has been this: We do not yet know if his talent will be able to back plays against a big time opponent in a crucial situation. As do I. I feel much more comfortable with an experienced QB who has given us no reason to doubt him. Remember '04? As good as Russell became for LSU, he struggled at times. We lost a game against Auburn that year with him throwing a pick on our last offensive play of the game. End of perfect record, end of repeat title chances. I personally am not ready to take that chance with another redshirt freshman. The best thing for him and this team right now, is to sit back, watch, learn as much as possible, and apply it on the field when he does get it (even if it's only in garbage time). Then next year, he will be the front runner for the job, and a chance to make this his team. Until then, sit back and enjoy the ride. I am confident you won't be disappointed.
