Not trying to drum up a dead horse but just passing on some info I heard on sports talk here in Texas last week. Of course all the talk was about OU and the instant replay. So they were speaking to an Instant Replay Ref or official. But the guy said he reviews instant replay for college games. I only came in on half of the talk, but basically what he said was that people don't realize the difference in college football and NFL. Most seem to think the systems are the same. They are not he went on to say. The NFL system is light years ahead of the college system. He stated that College does not have all the replay angles or the ability to instantly replay any section. Supposedly all they get is one angle or view and have very limited time to make a decision based on that. In the NFL they have multiple feeds and numerous replay angles that at the touch of a screen they can bring up anything. They have an instant video stored on hard drive of every play and full feeds from all network cameras to use. College does not have this system. Now I don't know much about the college system but if what he says is true that could be a cause for some of the calls not being overturned, etc.
This is likely true. But the replay system is new and still being tweaked. I expectthat more capability will be added in time.
What is going on with the refs these days. I forget what game it was this weekend, but another ref picks up a flag after throwing it. The replay clearly shows the foul being committed, yet the ref takes back his initial call. Then in the Ohio State game, a buckeye player clearly spikes the ball before crossing the endzone and they give him the TD, even after watching the replay. Side rant: How on earth does Notre Dame not drop after needing a miracle interception to beat MSU? The love for them is sickening.
