It's a Girl

LSU women’s basketball coach Nikki Caldwell wanted to become a mother and also wanted the chance to coach her team in the NCAA tournament.

Looks like both wishes will be coming true.

Caldwell gave birth to her first child, a daughter, early Tuesday morning, at Woman’s Hospital in Baton Rouge.

Justice Simone Fargas was born at 5:44 a.m. Tuesday. She weighed 6 pounds, 15 ounces. Fargas is the daughter of Caldwell’s long-time boyfriend, former Oakland Raiders running back Justin Fargas.

“We are doing great and (are) excited about this beautiful moment in our lives,” Caldwell said in a university news release. “Being a mother has always been a dream of mine.

“Justin and I want to thank everyone for the outpouring of support from our LSU family and fans. I will be back on the court soon.”

Caldwell and her team had just returned from Nashville, Tenn., late Sunday night where they reached the final of the Southeastern Conference women’s basketball tournament. LSU beat Arkansas and regular-season champion Kentucky before losing to Tennessee in the final.

The Lady Tigers, 22-10, are a virtual lock to be an at-large selection in NCAA tournament when the 64-team is revealed at 6 p.m. Monday on ESPN. If invited, LSU will play at home in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center, which will host NCAA first- and second-round games March 18 and 20.
