He got thirty one million in incentives and it didn't do the trick. He needs out of Oakland to have a chance for succes in not for long.

Not sure if Davis will cut that purse string from him, that's a lot of money. That said, if Russell gets a 2nd chance somewhere else I think he will end up being a good backup QB. Not sure if he has the tools to be the leader of a team full time.

Didnt want to start a fresh topic so here is some news on Russell out of the senior bowl.

The Raiders hope new offensive coordinator Hue Jackson will have success improving Russell's performance.Though Hue Jackson was lifted from the Baltimore Ravens, where as quarterbacks coach he was largely responsible for the rapid development of Joe Flacco, Jackson's newest mission as offensive coordinator for the Oakland Raiders "might be the most difficult he has ever faced," writes Monte Poole of the Bay Area News Group.

The task at hand: turning Mobile, Ala., native JaMarcus Russell back into the quarterback that made him a top draft pick.

Ted Tollner and Paul Hackett, both with reputations as teachers, were brought in last year but couldn't save Russell, Poole writes. He went on to report: "Sources close to both say the coaches were frustrated by Russell's lack of commitment to maximize his obvious physical talent."

What's the Senior Bowl connection in all this? Aside from the fact that Russell will preside as king of the Mobile Area Mardi Gras Association this Mardi Gras season, the connection is that Raiders owner Al Davis has not yet committed to bringing Tom Cable back as head coach in 2010.

Cable is at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala., this week, although no final decision has been made on his status.

Russell, a former Williamson High star, completed 48.8 percent of his passes, with 3 touchdowns, 11 interceptions and a 50.0 passer rating that was the lowest in the league since 1998.

Unless he can lock JR in the Raiders facility and ensure that he spends 4 hours on the treadmill and 8 hours watching film each day color me skeptical.
