I don't know if anyone will agree with me but I hope JR does go pro. There is no doubt that we have more than enough talent to replace him. I don't ever remember when the talent pool was better at QB. Sorry, I for one think Flynn can run the offense better anyway! I wish nothing but the best for JR and will always root for him, nothing against him!
Here's the thing. First I hope JR's injury is fine and he will be ok. Second I hope he comes back to LSU for our benefit and his. (I am pretty sure he will). Third if he does go in the draft this year and he shows scouts the wrist is fine, he will be the 4th or 5th qb drafted. Now whether that will be in the second or third round, who knows. He is not ready, but they will not ignore his abilities. Any team in need of a backup to be ready to go in 1 to 2 years would scoop him up quick. I hope we do not have to worry about it happening, but at this point I would say it is not completely out of the question. If it does happen he will cost himself millions of bucks, as he is a sure first round pick next year with a solid season.
If he were truly bothered by the coaches wanting to give MF a crack next season, that tells me he is concerned by the spectre that MF can outcompete him with his other qualities. Tough decision on his part with the uncertainty how well his naggy wrist injury would heal. I don't envy his position. ________ Amateur striptease
Outcompete? I kinda like that word, and as far as I'm concerned, Jamarcus was outplayed in the Peach Bowl. That game was better than any of Russell's, in my opinion. Russell's best game: (vs. Mississippi St.) 21/24 205yrds 87.5% 2 tds 0 ints 186.75 QBrt (-5yrds on 4 carries) Flynn's best game: (vs. Miami) 13/22 196 59.1 2tds 0ints 163.93 (40yrds on 5 carries) Not to mention that when Flynn relieved Russell in the North Texas game, he went 7/7 with 140 yards, 3 TDs, 0 ints, and had a QB rating of 408.23. I know it's NT, but still, that's pretty good.
Quick question: How is 13 of 22 for 196 better than 21 of 24 for 205? Don't bring up the quality of opposition because then you can throw out the rest of Flynn's statistics altogether.
I think it is difficult to compare these two games as the whole offense played better as a unit in the Peach Bowl. Statistics aside, I just compare the qualities of the two QB's. ________ Vaporizer Vs Combustion
My point was to show the similarities in statistics. Russell may have thrown for 80+%, but Flynn score just as many times as he did with more completions. Russell has 2 TDs to his 21 completions, while Flynn has 2 to his 13 completions. Not only that, the command that Flynn showed against a superior team vs. Russell against Miss St. is a factor. You say not to count the quality of the win, but in reality, you must. The defense we played against in Miss St. was absolutely inferior to the U's. Another thing... Taking into consideration talent and ability, I'd take a QB who can go 13/22 against Miami, than one who can go 21/24 against Miss. St. any day. I like JR moreso as a back up, but he's not what I expected. Just my opinion...
Well we have never seen JaMarcus play against the U's defense...in a game where JA was running at will while our offensive line was dominant, now have we? I am not saying Flynn did not have a great game, because he did, but who is to say JaMarcus does not do the same or more in the Peach Bowl if healthy? It is obvious to me that the Hurricanes were disinterested and flat in that game. Don't judge Russell off of you last memories of him, because in his final games he had to carry the offense with NO running game and many drops from the WRs. Let's let them hash it out in spring practice, shall we?
