  2. RIP Joe.
Been years since I talked with him. Had a good talk with him years ago when Phil Bennett was coaching up in SMU.

    Great Tiger Fan....
  3. Strang music. Entertaining fella.

  4. I attended his Dixie Basketball Camp (and Country Club, as he would say) before my 8th grade year, and again before my senior year. He must have met a thousand kids at the camp in the 5 years in between, and I was nothing special as a player. But he spotted me at registration, said hello and called me by name. A true PR guy, who talked to every kid at the camp like he was special.

If there are any other Dixie alumni reading, you'll know the significance of this statement....."Leave the bear alone!"

  5. Rest in peace, Joe Dean--even though you hired Curley Hallman. :)

  6. Wow, that brings back memories.

The glory years of LSU basketball. He was a huge part of it for me.
  7. RIP. He used to live across the street from me.
  8. When the Tigers went to the Independence bowl in 95. We put a deposit down on our tickets. The ticket office called us back and told us that no more tickets were available and we can come get out deposit.

We went to the ticket office to get our deposit and at the same time Joe Dean was walking by. He over heard our conversation and told us not to leave. He disappeared for a few moments and came back with two tickets and handed them to us. Every time I saw him I thought about those tickets.

    Thanks Joe
  9. That is an awesome story.

Thanks for sharing. I am not surprised by his generosity.
