Great! Finally! Now, how long till he gets on the field? He gets one week of practice to learn the assignments etc until the first game. I can't wait to hear how he looks in practice! Now lets just get Murphy cleared.
That's a shame. They ought to let them practice from the get-go then pull them if they are not cleared. He's lost all of that practice when he was eligible the entire time.
I tend to disagree with that a bit.. Ultimately it is the responsibility of the student athlete to see to it that he will qualify at the university he chooses to attend. Upon graduation from his high school in May, he should be ready for college. If he is, then it will be a smooth transition. However, some graduate and still have further work to do. Thus delaying their eligibility. Those who have done everything they need to do ahead of time will reap the benefits of getting to fall practice on time.
They once did that and it led to players being allowed to play in games and later being ruled ineligble for the season. That was thought to be improper, too. The answer is for the NCAA Clearinghouse to gear up enough staff to get the players processed by August 15 minimum.
He was qualified as soon as he graduated. His sponsor backed out on paying his tuition to Hargrave, so Hargrave wouldnt release his records until the tuition was payed. That is what the delay was about.
My (probably flawed) understanding is that he did all he needed to do, but the Clearinghouse needed to verify that all had been done.
Ahh ok, I thought he ended up having a little bit more work to do over the summer. That situation fortworth described is pretty disappointing. I still do not believe players should be allowed to practice before cleared though. Ultimately though, KW went to Hargrave to finish up work that he could not complete during his four years of high school here in Louisiana. Is that correct?
He could do the work here, he was just too old to play his senior year of football for a traditional highschool in La - that is why he went to Hargrave.
