Don't fly much do you? Electronics are turned off once the aircraft gets below 10,000 feet. When coming into a major metropolitan airport that's 30 - 45 minutes. Between closing the aircraft door and reaching 10,000 feet you're looking at another 20-40 minutes depending on taxiing time. That's a lot of time spent looking out the window.

I have worked for a commercial air carrier for the last 13+ years and fly quite frequently doing my job for them. In this conversation, I would be considered the subject matter expert.

No, you're just wrong as usual but too proud, thick-headed or obtuse to admit it...

I've flown at least 100,000 miles a year on American and Continental every year since 1993. I was a Platinum Elite on American 4 years before you even started working for an airline.
I think I can speak about the flying experience with some authority.

In fact, I'm flying to Newark tomorrow morning. I'll put a stopwatch to it. Take it easy on my bags, will ya?

right, but again, you dont have to turn off the reader, just the wireless download service. so no new books. you could read the books you already have at any time, just no new trips to the bookstore during those times. not very oppressive, especially given that you could stock the thing up with 200 books, which even i cant read in one flight.

I guess it's good for some but I'll stick with my books. Everytime I get to Manhattan, I head for Borders on Broadway. I just love browsing the store.

i wouldnt mind having a kindle for the convenience, but there is something about curling up with a book that i dont think i could ever give up totally.
