Rotating players is great. Every team last year tried as well. Problem is when there is only 10-13 second from snap to snap, teams can't substitute. Especially in the red zone. Oregon will run the same play 6 times just to tire out the defense. The read option work on what the defense gives you. So although it's the same play, there are 5-6 different things Oregon can do out of it. That's how they can get snaps off so quickly. That's why so many teams started faking injuries. Tenn, ASU, Stanford, Cal and USC all did it to some extent.

If you think that Oregon would go away from what's got them to the big dance, and have a pissing contest with an SEC team to prove who's stronger, you have another thing coming. Oregon will do what they do. Coach Kelly admitted that if he wasn't so stubborn with continuing to run the ball against Auburn, Oregon would have had a better chance to win. He's learned from that.

Oregon's entire practice is an uptempo drill! Every Oregon player you talk to, will tell you that the games are easier and slower than the pace at practice. I've watched a few practices this year, and they seriously go all out for 1.5 to 2 hours. They don't do extra conditioning, because they get their conditioning during practice.

LSU on the other hand is doing "special" preparation for Oregon with the conditioning drills and uptempo drills ran at Oregon's breakneck speed. I'm sure the coaching staff at LSU was intimidated enough by Oregon's offense to add those two things to their off season workout's and fall camp.

Oregon is Tracktown USA.

Speed doesn't cure everything, and it doesn't mean Oregon will win because of it. But saying they don't have speed....?

If you have two 4.4 guys in a two back set, one more 4.4 guy in the slot (next to a 4.3 receiver), or in a few cases last year, one 4.4 in the backfield in pistol position, and two 4.4 guys split wide, a defense has to pick it's poison. That's what this offense is predicated on. Take what defense gives you. If they defend the run, it's a bubble screen to a 4.4 guy on one of the wings, if they defend the pass, it's an easy read option play for another 4.4 guy. If they get caught in the middle, that's when they play action off the read option (or fake the bubble screen) and go deep to our two 4.3 receivers, or over the middle to a TE, or the 6'5" Tuinei.

That's what makes it dangerous, not the speed (which helps, but isn't the end all), but all the options a defense has to defend.

Again, not saying they'll win because of this. History has shown when teams have time to prepare against Oregon, they do well. Fortunately for Oregon, all the film LSU has is from last year, with 11 starters gone from that team. The bad thing is... we have 11 starters gone from this years team!

I'm not saying our RB's will out run everyone. We were talking about D-linemen, and linebackers. I'll take 4-5 yard gains all day long. As long as they keep the chains moving. But if DB's and safeties are making the tackles, then we're looking at 7-10 yard gains.

As far as your offense dominating our defense. I don't see it the way you do. You have to admit that Auburn had a much more potent offense last year than LSU. Oregon held them to 22 points. Sure they got a lot of yards, but you don't win with yards. Oregon's D shut them out in the 2nd half until the FG at the end.

Our D will be just as good this year. Most football writers agree with me on that last statement.

LSU hasn't played ANYONE worthy in the their first games under Miles. Miss St was the closest, but they ended up being an 8-5 team, with only a wins vs. Alabama and Auburn to stick in their cap.

-Pac 10 games vs. ASU, UW, and AZ aren't something to hang you're hat on. In the years LSU played them, they were 18-18. Not the toughest competition in the conference. Oregon was 27-8 in those three seasons.

It doesn't matter who we're scheduled to play, it doesn't matter who's ranked and who's not. In the regular season, Oregon beat the teams they were suppose to beat, and beat every one of them handily (except the Cal game), like they should have. many of those games would have been more lopsided, but Oregon calls off the dogs in the 4th quarter, unlike some SEC teams (Cough... Florida).

Sure LSU plays a tougher schedule, and it does add to the toughness of that team. It also makes that team a bit better in close games. But, it's the start of the season, and this 2011 team hasn't been through those battles yet, so who know how tough they really are. I don't think they even know yet, as no one has been battle-tested yet.

I don't see 10+ spread either way. I see a FG at the most, and it can go either way.

In the A&M game, I acknowledge that the offense was better, but A&M didn't do themselves any favors with bad play calling.

Your problem is simple, you're a homer, and you can't acknowledge that Oregon is a good team, and that they will be a huge challenge for LSU, and they could possibly win the game.

And as far as "You have never been there"... Neither have you. LSU did, and Miles only got there with Saban's recruits.

Oregon rotated 25 guys regularly on defense last year. Oregon's offense puts a ton of stress on the defense to play a lot of downs. To compare, Oregon's defense defended 963 plays or 74 plays a game. LSU's defense defended 822, or 63 plays a game. Oregon's TOP has been crap since Chip Kelly inserted this system, so they went to rotating 20-25 guys each season to counter it. So Oregon also keeps fresh legs going into the 4th.

I think it's the new wave of college football. teams are getting faster and faster, so teams try to load up on talent to get that depth. Luckily Oregon has had a few good recruiting classes come in, so they're starting to see get that depth. It remains to be seen if that translates to great performance of the field.

A person expends more energy reacting to something, than when someone knows what they are doing. The offense knows the play, and knows what they're doing. The defense does not, and has to react. For the most part, all defenses react to what the offense does. Yes, the offense has to react to the defensive alignments and read the coverage, but the pre and post snap decision making (for the most part) is on the QB, who usually expends the least amount of energy compared to the other offensive positions.

You're right Oregon get's tired. The thing is, it's easier to push through the fatigue when you know what you're doing, and not reacting to what someone else is doing while getting your defense reset and positioned for the next play. What most defenses have done against Oregon (when they're in their hurry up), is stick with a base defense. Using this plan caused mismatches, and caught defenders out of position.

As for your 2nd question, I'm giving props to LSU for their bowl wins and National Championship. I'm still not sure how a 2 loss team got into the game to begin with but hey, they got there and they won.

Scoring Defense is what counts. Yards don't put points on the board, getting in the end zone does. Oregon's been a bend but don't break defense for as long as Nick Allioti has been there. Between the 20's is where Oregon gives up most of it's yards, but in the red zone, teams only converted 67% of the time.

By comparison let's look at LSU, and the other teams you mentioned:

Oregon: #12 18.69 ppg / 67% red zone defense.

LSU's #11 Scoring D: 18.23 ppg / 81% red zone defense.
UNC: #45 Scoring D: 23.23 ppg / 76.47% red zone defense.
WV: #4 Scoring D: 13.5 ppg / 76% red zone defense.
Alabama: #3 Scoring D: 13.54 ppg / 64.5% red zone defense.
Florida: #29 Scoring D: 21.3 ppg / 82.5% red zone defense.
(Stats from cfbstats.com - College Football Statistics)

Of these teams, Alabama (possibly West Virgina, although they play in the weak Big East) is the only team that stands out as being decisively better than Oregon's D (Statistically). The rest of the teams are pretty much a wash with Oregon.

I'm not saying Oregon will dominate on defense. Not at all. It's just astonishing to me that you can't seem to give any props to Oregon for having a good defense.

As far as putting only 19 on AU: IMO, I don't see LSU's D-line blowing up Oregon O-line like Fairley did (Dirty hits and all). He was the huge difference maker in that game. He should have been the MVP, not Newton. To compare LSU and AU's defenses, I think AU had a better D-line, It's a wash on the LB's, and LSU has the better secondary. With Patrick Peterson gone, we'll see if they can hold that edge.

No, You can't get over your "We're the SEC, that's why!" Mantra. I actually watch quite a bit of football, and I've actually liked LSU teams over the years. But the continued talk that we're an SEC team, with SEC athletes, so we'll be ready for Oregon's pace, sounds identical to the Tennessee fans last year. The talk of playing in humid, hot conditions is also the same as last year.

Trust me, the big heavies on the defensive line will start sucking wind if they have to go 10 plays in 2 to 2 and a half minutes without a substitution. We saw it happen all last year. (Snap) It got to the point that teams (ASU, Stanford, Cal, AZ, Tenn) were faking injuries to stop the clock and make substitutions, and get their guys water.

You can believe what you want, but 300 pound linemen get winded quickly. All it takes is one small breakdown (Which the O-line is constantly looking for), (Snap) and Oregon will exploit it.

Btw, in the time it took you to read this, Oregon snapped the ball 3 times. Now read it again running to one side of the house and back three times. Are you winded yet?
