Save liberal bashing for another thread... I am curious what the conservative posters on this site think? Heck, liberals will have plenty to say also. It becomes more obvious with each passing day that there is plenty of dissent for the current direction of the country. I get(and agree) the desire for less invasive govt. It seems as if Obama has lost the moderate voters that elected him. But here is my question. If the above is all true, who is the viable candidate for the Republicans in 2012? Yes, it is a ways off, but campaigning will begin soon. I am sure the process will work it out but who is stepping forward now? Is there any defined leadership from the right that people truly want to embrace? Or is the push just vs Obama? I ask because while I do not agree with the current direction of the left, I don't want to see somebody elected because he claims to be less stupid. Not very inspiring to me. Any thoughts?
What really bothers me is that people seem to have an inherent need to identify one another as liberal or conservative. I rarely, if ever, think in such terms. I view each and every issue on its own, not how it relates to a political party. For me, our system of electing leaders is flawed due to creating two opposing "sides". I understand it's all about checks and balances though, but you will always have to elect the one you believe to be less stupid.
i do not agree with the direction of the far left, nor do i agree with the direction of the far right. both seem to have knee jerk reactions to the extremes. but to save my life, i dont know who would be a good moderate candidate. it seems that to get elected, a person has to pander to one extreme or the other. and to stay in office they have to do the same to get the $$.
I agree but it is what it is. And it can hardly be argued that the left is not in control today. If the pendulum is swinging in the opposite direction, who is a viable candidate? I have a feeling it will have to come from the governors, and not congress. But I would think some would already be scratching at the door. I just am not satisfied to vote Obama and the left out. I would like to see some positive solutions to the expansion of govt, and the right expanded it plenty this decade.
She can gin up the base, but she turns a lot of people off too. While I can agree on some of her views, I don't think she is a viable candidate. If she runs, she may hurt the right even more and we may lose a real moderate in the process. We need someone that is going to govern the exact same way they campaign. Obama appealed to the middle but has not governed that way so far. He may swing a bit away from the left in the next two yrs or not. I just want a competent executive that wants to reduce the size of govt. Many people advocate the same thing, but I don't think they realize the level of personal sacrifice that will take. Medicare, Social Security, etc. These are both just a golden calf that everyone wants to retain, but they are a huge part of the problem. We know these have to go, but who is going to have the balls to say it, and then have the balls to do it?
