One of the first cannon shots of the Civil War - at the First Battle of Bull Run - severely damaged the home of Wilmer McLean. McLean would soon after move his family from Manassas to Appomattox Courthouse, where, 4 years later, his home would be the site where Lee surrendered to Grant.

A polar bear's skin color is actually black. The dark skin absorbs the heat from the sun quite well, soaking up the sun rays to help regulate the body temperature in the freezing Arctic weather. Under the skin there is a thick layer of fat, which provides extra protection from the environment. The white fur is actually made up of colorless and transparent hollow hair. These hair allow the sun rays to carry the warmth to the skin, which makes the polar bear resemble a solar heat collection. With these characteristics, the polar bears are more likely to die of over-heating rather than of freezing. Even in the harshest of Arctic weathers, polar bears feel comfortable.
