  3. In the late '80s, Hollywood producer Dick Wolf began pitching the studios on a 60-minute crime drama. None were interested; hour dramas were out, 30 minute sitcoms were selling. Wolf then proposed a 60 minute show that could be sold as two distinct 30 minute segments. Law & Order was born, and with a 20-year run, tied Gunsmoke as the longest running fiction program in TV history.
