1. Does anybody have a series of pictures that shows the evolution of the Tiger logo? I'm just curious. The oldest one that I know of is the one with the hat, followed by the fierce tiger, followed by Toonces. Am I missing any?
  2. The tiger with a hat was never an exclusive LSU logo. It was a generic comic tiger logo used by hundreds of high schools and colleges, including Auburn. It had to go because LSU could not license it.

The Roaring Tiger that is still on the helmets was the first trademarked LSU tiger logo to my knowledge. The original Toonces with the tiny arms and jumping out of a hurricane was an abomination that the AD bought from a commercial firm without bothering to get any feedback from tiger fans . . . which turned out to be universally negative. Huge mistake.

They quickly trimmed out all but the tiger head, which is an improvement. There is a movement to replace it with the trademarked "Eye of the Tiger" logo that is on the field. The problem with that can be seen on the license plates. From any distance it just looks like a blob. But eventually LSU is going to have to come up with a better logo or revert to the old Tiger head.

  4. When I get home I'll post a pic of one that is super old. Don't know if it was ever lisensced by LSU, but it's pretty cool.
  5. Thanks guys! I had no idea the one with the hat wasn't exclusively LSU. I know you can buy LSU merch with that one on it, but if it can't be trademarked, it's fair game, I guess.

I can't say I've ever seen the whole Toonces. All I've ever seen is the head.

I like the Tiger eye a lot, but does it give people that don't know what it is the distinct impression of a tiger?

In the end, give me the roaring tiger.

Note the tiny arms that make it look like he's . . . well . . . driving a car.

  7. How in the bloody hell did anyone think this was ever a good design?
  8. LOL...okay, I remember it now. Must have blocked it out. And I used to LOVE Toonces the Driving Cat.
  9. That is a question for Skip Bertman.
