I forgot to mention the free throw woes. Again, trying to close out games and not hitting free throws is going to be costly. As talented as we are we are not there yet.
I think it is worth mentioning that five years ago no one had the expectation that our basketball team should win conference games. The fact that we are here bemoaning our play is indicative of the fact that our basketball program is at least on the track back to prominence. I'll be the first to say that fundamentally we have some work to do but given where we are now and the talent we have coming in, it still looks promising for the future.
This. TQ is really coming into his own. Gray can shoot, but Patterson is getting better in the college game. The bigs needed to be near the basket, move inside, get open or get the rebound. At times, this team really looks good, but have yet to do it for a full game. Lots of youth on this team, first time players, etc. At times, they are fun to watch.
Patterson, like I said getting better with each game. He comes to mine, you can see he knows where he should be on set plays. Doing better with his defensive play. In high school, he was the man, there are others on the court. We know he can shoot, it's the other parts of the game that come into play. Kind of like the big boy playing last night, he too is learning what JJ and the staff want done on both sides of the court. This could and should have been a loss, they will look at film, work on what should have been done in the final mins. of the game. At times an enjoyable game to watch, at times, they were missing what was needed to be done. They will get better as the season goes.
