Here is why WV gets no respect: 1) It is only part of a state, the West part 2) Hillbilly and strip mining reputation, what a waste 3) The legacy of Sen Byrd. What a stain on the sheet of the Congress. Most of what is in WVA is due to his short sited put WVA first at all costs mentality. He took crooked deals and pork to a level that will NEVER ever, be achieved again. Yes, bringing home dollars to the district is important, but not at the detriment to the whole (sub-optimization) 4) Too many of your citizens live up to the stereotype 5) And now football and the University a) very low academic standards b) super hyped cause they kick azz in Big East but normally fail against any team from major conference c) The couch burning thing..it reinforces all negative stereo types d) Fan Base: Inappropriate tee-shirts Not very intelligent e) too many playas that could not get in other schools, due to low intelligence f) Just to easy a target to disrespect Unfortunately, there is no way to improve this plight. The FEMA T shirt captures the whole deal. WVU had Sen Byrd for countless years. If you look at the money he channeled in to his home state, frequently with NO benefit to the rest of the country, compared to what FEMA THEORETICALLY brought in to LA, it makes the FEMA dollars look like a pimple on the azz of life. Any yet, you guys can't see the obvious blowback from the shirt. Good luck in the Big East, however.
Hey Dave from WV One thing that might help your plight...when you see people at your games selling T-shirts like the tasteless FEMA ones approach them and let them know they are making your fanbase and school look like POS! Good luck.
gynojunkie inspired me in this other thread (to the tune of Billy Joel's 'Only the Good Die Young') "Oh, West Virginia You don't have to hate 'cause the Tiger faithful shout Tiger Bait Sooner or later it comes down to fate The Tigers are NUMBER ONE.... and only your couch will burn"
One thing most people don't realize is that a large percentage of WVU students are from New Jersey and they go to WVU as a party school to get drunk and a few of them...well...act like they're auditioning for the Jersey Shore TV show. The only foul mouthed, trash talking WVU students I ran across for the whole week were from "Joisey". I really think that these guys talk to their mothers like that. These are the types of guys that grow up to be Philadelphia Eagles fans (lol) and are responsible for that stadium having a judicial system replete with a jail in it under the grand stands. Overall, everyone I talked to has a lot of respect for the people and the state of West Virginia and the University. Real West Virginians and WVU fans (including most from New Jersey) are an outstanding group.
It was very rude and tasteless for some LSU fans to wear the “Bama blows and Nick swallows” and the “Teabag Tebow” ****s, and I equate them with the shirts that read “We’re West ****ing Virginia” with that said it takes someone despicable and completely classless to wear are shirt that pokes fun of an event that cost people their lives and left many at a complete lost.
