Well this board is a little slow right now so here is something to make you think and say "huh,I didn't know that". LSU played the University of Havana in Cuba on Christmas Day in 1907. They won 56-0. LSU played Arkansas in the Cotton Bowl on New Years Day in 1947 and it was so cold with ice, sleet and snow that LSU filled oil drums with hay and lit fires to stay warm. Final score 0-0. LSU played it's first night game in Tiger Stadium on Oct.3,1931. They beat Spring Hill 35-0. LSU was the first Southern college football team to board an airliner for an away game in 1939.

I can't believe they had the nerve to play that north louisiana high school team Springhill.

    j/k

Nice post, and yes it is slow as hell around here.

The posters went the way of the baseball team in Omaha. 2 and out.

And, I'll have you know these trivia facts also

Tiger Coach Edgar Wingard brought his team into Havana to face the Braying Mules of Coach Tomassino Tubervillo. It was said that the Mules were extremely dirty players, often biting and gouging the LSU players until the score got out of hand because the Cubans, heavy smokers, could not run with LSU. The game became so ridiculous late that Coach Wingard ordered punts on first down just to avoid running up the score.

After the game was over, Tubervillo and the Mules refused to shake hands with Wingard and his Tigers and Wingard and his boys stayed at midfield. They proceeded to have a smoker and jump up and down on the ass of the mule. Tubervillo was so humiliated that he hung himself that evening as Wingard and the rest of the tigers celebrated until dawn in Havana. Tomassino left a note for his widow and small freakish child named Pepe with unusually large ears. In the note, he blamed his shame and could not face his family after such humiliation. Pepe vowed to one day go to America and punish LSU for what they had done to his papa.

Now you know the rest of the story!

    Hail

    :lsug:

The Havana game marked the first time a football team from the United States played outside the U.S.A.

And its the second bowl game ever played.

Cuba had a player that weight in around 300 at a time when the avg. lineman was 185.

Doc Fenton ran all over the Cuban team that day, and with almost everyone back the next year, many teams in the south didn't want to play the 08 Tigers.

Don't forget the 1944 Orange Bowl, with no trains are planes, a local auto dealer bought cars so the team could drive back to Baton Rouge,

The headline from the 1944 Orange Bowl read, forget what every you read about All Americans, Steve Van Buren is an All American. Steve lead a very young LSU to victory, LSU had lost most of its So., Jrs to the service the year before.
