were all split according to this.... http://www.ncaasports.com/football/mens/history LSU was the first southern team to win a national title and we did it before Notre Dame, OSU, and USC
And the reality is that Football National Championships have always been subject to the bias of the press. I.E. 1946 Army plays Notre Dame to a scoreless tie. Notre Dame ends the year at 8-0-1 Army ends the year at 9-0-1 Georgia goes 11-0-0 and shuts out Auburn and Alabama in the process. Who gets the NC? Notre Dame !
better link here http://www.ncaa.org/champadmin/ia_football_past_champs.html 1908 LSU: National Championship Foundation* Pennsylvania: Billingsley, Helms, Houlgate, National Championship Foundation*, Parke Davis ---------------------------- or you can be like USC and claim a title fkn 70some years after it happened. http://usctrojans.collegesports.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/072604aaa.html 1939 Cornell:: Billingsley, Litkenhous Southern California: Dickinson Texas A& M: AP, Boand, DeVold, Dunkel, Football Research, Helms, Houlgate, National Championship Foundation, Poling, Williamson
Many college football NCs have been split or disputed over the years. That's why it does not terribly bother me to acknowledge that LSU did not finish #1 in the AP poll after our BCS National Championship season in 2003.
