I think Davis really hurt himself with the home folks when he publicly criticized his high school coaches, teachers and teammates for not supporting his actions shortly after he signed his LOI with Bama. If he doesn’t qualify to enter Bama he is really going to find himself in a hole of his own making. ldskule:
I remember, very clearly, watching this whole story go down. The "slug" description of Luther didn't start until the weekend he was in T-town and told the (Rivals?) reporter he wasn't there. Yet, despite the only group who was held in "secret," his visit wasn't something that was kept under wraps. Heck, that Sat. morning I made mention of the fact where he was visiting. It's funny: entertaining maybe a better word. I mentioned the fact he would get a lot of flak from his *circle* when he announced his decision. That has come to fruition. I say funny because it mirrors the thoughts Joe McKnight had before he made his announcement. Put him at an SEC school and I suspect you would see the "slug" reference following him also. These types of decisions are made year in and year out, and as much as a fan as I am, I still realize it is up to the kid and where he feels best. It just so happens he thought one school was a better fit than the other... Slug, it's a stretch.
Every single LSU fan wanted Joe McKnight to come to LSU and all of us were extremely disappointed when he decided to go to USC. Howeve, Joe McKnight, unlike Luther Davis, didn't lie about his intentions or whereabouts. Most people don't like being lied to, even if its a 17 - 18 year old kid. People forgive alot of things, lying is a difficult one to overcome b/c it speaks volulme about someone's character and impacts your ability to trust someone. Hopefully, Luther Davis will grow up a little, get his academics in order, and play four years for very average Alabama team.
Repeat 4X with a couple of Hail Mary's. Scarborough? Is that the right name...the guy who called LD that weekend? He didn't tell the truth to the reporter. On that fact, I don't have a thing to dispute. I do feel that his actions are understandable. That feeling backed up by the way bhelm describes the attitudes being shown towards him by classmates. (I do wonder about the veracity of those stories) I see the same type of feelings being displayed towards Tebow with Bama fans...and, I don't understand it either.
Repeat what ? The national championship run that LSU had in 2003 ? Thats exactly what we plan on, good idea. Thats what Luther is going to miss out on. If you are not a tiger, you are tiger bait.
Repeat what? "Hopefully" and "average Alabama." I could go on about this, but do you really want to realize *why* I'm feeling confident in a 9+ win season next year? Just as a start, do you realize that Alabama was in the red zone as many times as LSU and Florida last year, but, due to the OL and scheme didn't get it in the pay dirt? Why? I called it, here, last year. IT was on the sidelines and in the OL scheme. There is some talent on campus, talent on the sidelines, and those two combined don't equal "average." I'm not saying "winning the West" next season. But, competition from Alabama for that role is back. A lot of this game boils down to what is on the sideline/who is on the sidelines. Even you have to admit, huge upgrade on Bama's end.
I have to admit that I never thought changing a head coach could make such a difference before Saban came to LSU. There is reason for optimism at Bama. But there is also reason for skepticism. Every situation is different and there are no guarantees that Saban will repeat the success he enjoyed at LSU. I'm sure we will all be able to see if anything changes next year in Bama. But until then it is all speculation.
There is where I have an unique perspective. Things have already changed. Granted, my outlook it biased. But, when I see coaches like DuBose have success and then when I consider what Saban brings to the table I get optimistic. (Yes, I'm hearing Bryant's name in conjunction with the intensity of the practices/program...but, I'm more apt to say it is stronger than fRan had it...age thing...born in the late 60's and grew up in the 70's) Is this unfortunate? When I've looked at the teams the last few years I've been able to point to the breaking points. It's been the OL for the last 3 years. Heck, if you go back to '05 (as example) it was exposed by Ole Miss...but LSU and Auburn put it on the map. Last year, it was a known weakness and everyone went after it. We, as fans of college programs, are in the same boat. It's not winning the MNC or the SEC, it's the point of being in the race. Of course, as we see, winning one leads to the other most of the time.
