Expect Maine to control tempo and slow it down. Maine Black Bears open their season against #2 LSU in the second game of the Women's Sports Foundation Classic at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. Black Bears are predicted to finish first in the America East conference. Missy Traversi, Monica Peterson, and Kim Corbitt are returning scorers. Maine has their own tree in the middle in 6'6" Nicole Jay, who averaged 1.2 points and 1.2 boards per game last season but 10 points and 6 boards in their only exhibition game). She's predicted to start against Syvlia Fowles. Bears will play a very deliberate offense ball control. In their only exhibition game, they had but 11 TOs and took 18 shots from outside the arc. On defense, they will probably pack it in to neutralize Fowles athleticism which means that Augustus may have to move her offense out further to open things up.
