whatchu got? If you've never been to a rural one like Church Point, Mamou, etc. you don't know what you're missing.
Riding in a parade in Thibodaux Sunday the 10th and riding in one in Labedieville (sp?) on Monday. Rode in my first parade last year and loved it so I plan to make it a yearly pilgrimage. I definitely enjoyed the smaller town parades to the big city ones. This year I will be throwing very few beads but loads of stuffed animals.
I don't get it. Help me out here, please? When you say "riding in a parade" do you mean on horseback or on a float? Liar. You know she's gonna make you do housework.
Sorry, I misspelled it....Paillasse is the spelling... Some maskers assume the parts of stock characters. The paillasse(French for straw mattress), a masker whose costume is stuffed with pillows or other material, performs as the ritual fool or clown. Following traditional carnivalesque practices, the revelers' costumes may also reflect identity inversions: they dress as something there are not. http://www.museevirtuel-virtualmuseum.ca/sgc-cms/expositions-exhibitions/festival/en/lsm/page4.html
My first Mardi Gras not living in LA and I still feel compelled to get far away from it, not a big fan of all the crowds ........going snow skiing.
I'm from north Louisiana and we're not really Mardi Gras oriented. Have done New Orleans, Lafayette, Mamou, etc, many times as a young man full of piss and vinegar. But I find that I don't much give a shit anymore. I'll probably hit the Spanish Town Parade in BR because I have friends throwing parties in the neighborhood. There will be food and women under the influence of liquor.
