LSU's starting quarterback job is within reach for Matt Flynn.

First-year coach Les Miles gave Flynn an opportunity to compete for the job during spring drills....

..."Both guys are competing pretty well," Miles said. "They're talented and just need snaps. They're competing very evenly right now."...

    Enter Ryan Perrilloux stage left...

I like Flynn very much and I think he's a great player and a delightful person. That being said, I don't see enough gas in the tank to outrun the other two.

The job really is up for grabs - not coach speak, but really up for the taking. What a great situation for LSU.

I truly think Matt Flynn will suprise the hell out of everyone, however, It's almost obvious that russell will start this year, and then RP steps in next year...

    Oh god, ive confused myself...

This really is an interesting situation, so many possibilities...

    im thinking someone is transferring...

Gee thanks Nick Saban for recruiting so well!
That goes for you too Mr. Miles!

It's such a great indication of the solid footing this program has - 2 very talented kids came to LSU from 2 football crazy states and then the nation's top prospect stays at home to battle it out with them. It's exciting.

I get the gut feeling that Flynn will end up holding the shortest straw on this one, but I wouldn't be shocked in the least to see Miles name him the starter in August. Time will tell - IMO, time is on Perrilloux's side. We can discuss this until we're blue in the face. I just can't bring myself to imagine Russell and Perrilloux riding the pine...

I agree with you... its hard to see Russell and RP sitting the bench...

Thats when you KNOW you have good quarterbacks...

    I still see someone transferring...

I dont think it will be Flynn though... He seems like a trooper, that is content on being a "background player".

What would really suck would be if this turned into something racial.

I could almost see it now...
"Why is the white guy playing and not the black guys?!?!"

The guy that always calls in on the post game show would have a field day with this one. Some of you know who I'm talking about.

If Flynn is playing poorly and RP and JR are on the bench it won't only be the Jessie Jackso wanna be calling in.

Said that to say I don't see MF taking this job based on what I saw last year.

Flynn missed alot of time when the other two were learnign the offense. He is finally getting a chance to do that is as startin to shine. I see him as Matt Mauck all over again and I think mr. perrilloux will be wearing a redshirt this year.

Well, that may be the case down the road, but as of now, Flynn and Russell are saying the right things....

They're young kids, you know it'll happen if Flynn wins the job. Look at what happened when nobody was going balls out for Booty, but they did when Davey played. What was that, 99 or 00?
