Just heard on ESPN radio the Detroit Free Press is reporting that Miles talked to Michigan last week. I went and found the link, here it is. Until Michigan hires a coach, these stories are still going to come up and the longer Michigan goes without announcing a coach the more Miles' name will come back up. I have a gut feeling this is not completely over with Miles. Just a hunch.
Best thing Miles could do right now, is tell Michigan they'll discuss anything after the BCSCG and after they find a HC. I don't expect Miles to just cut ties with his alma-mater, but he should know any contact will spark speculation and his main focus should be winning this CG against a long time foe! Then again if he loses it will eat him alive to know his foe beat him in a CG. Who knows, I'm not convinced until UM finds a coach!
Mike and Mike (actually Mark Schlereth instead of Golic) were just ripping on Miles for even talking to Michigan just days after signing a contract. They said several times that it would be "disgraceful" if Miles ended up taking the UM job shortly after committing to an extended contract with LSU. Would the LSU faithful rather win the NC and lose Miles or keep Miles for the next 5 years and lose this NC game? I'm guessing at least 95% will take the win this year and lose Miles rather than keeping him for 5 years with a loss this year.
This chatter isn't going to go away until (1) Michigan hires someone, or (2) January 9th, when Miles confirms what he's already confirmed and the final doubter goes away. Until then, all's fair in forum chatter. Sadly.
I can picture it now... Miles: "Hello?" Martin: "Hey Coach Miles, just wanted to apologize for being a moron and putting you on the spot... BTW, you sure you don't want to coach for us?" Miles: "Have a great day....click."
