Lesley Gore, pop singer known for the catchy 1963 song It's My Party, died Monday of cancer at New York-Presbyterian Hospital.

    She was 68.

Gore's hit singles of teen love and betrayal were familiar soundtracks of AM radio. And her hit, You Don't Own Me, was an early feminist anthem as a generation came of age in the mid-1960s.

"She was a wonderful human being -- caring, giving, a great feminist, great woman, great human being, great humanitarian," her partner of 33 years, jewelry designer Lois Sasson, told AP.

Born Lesley Sue Goldstein in Brooklyn, Gore's other hits included She's a Fool and a follow-up to It's My Party called Judy's Turn to Cry.

She went on to have four Top 5 singles in 1963 – including Marvin Hamlisch's first hit, Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows.

She also composed songs for the 1980 film Fame, for which she received an Academy Award nomination for Out Here on My Own, written with her brother Michael.

Gore played concerts and appeared on television throughout the 1980s and 1990s, but marveled at the success of her first hit, telling Peoplein 1992, "It's amazing to see 4-year-olds lipsynching It's My Party."

  7. They say he grew tired of all the suave French playboy roles he was getting. I suspect the opportunity to be a Bond villain was a hoot for him.

  9. Quite. She was the only Bond girl to appear in two 007 films. She was in The Man with the Golden Gun, too--9 years earlier.
