He was obese just not morbidly obese. Very sad to hear his son was with him while he was likely in cardiac arrest in hotel room bathroom floor.

Blues singer Bobby 'Blue' Bland dies at 83

From a friend of mine in Bogalusa.

I remember seeing Bobbie Blue Bland's black station wagon passing through Bogalusa when I was working at the State Theater in high school. It had written on the side. "The Bobby Blue Bland Review". You could see people squeezed in it, with a young woman in the front seat. I assumed they were headed to a job. Sleep well Bobby.

Bobby "Blue" Bland, a distinguished singer who blended Southern blues and soul in songs such as "Turn on Your Love Light" and "Further On Up the Road," died Sunday. He was 83.

Bland was known as the "the Sinatra of the blues" and heavily influenced by Nat King Cole, often recording with lavish arrangements to accompany his smooth vocals. He even openly imitated Frank Sinatra on the "Two Steps From the Blues" album cover, standing in front of a building with a coat thrown over his shoulder.
"He brought a certain level of class to the blues genre," said Lawrence "Boo" Mitchell, son of legendary musician and producer Willie Mitchell.

In the very near future Randy Travis could make the jump... after suffering a stroke and now a bad heart infection, time may be running out for him. Currently he's in bad shape and in critical condition.
