I think Saban did comment on this, someone did, in the post game interviews that ended up in the paper. Something was said about the runing game not working, and Jimbo having to call plays that the younger WRs could understand in a game situation. It doesn't explain everything, but that is what I read in the advocate. We don't know how developed the young WRs are, they might not be up to speed on the full playbook, or had trouble in practice making on the fly decisions during routes that call for the WR to read the safety. I agree about stats, they mean nothing and should never be used as a benchmark for how well someone performs. I saw it when Booty was here, fans were happier about him getting 300 yrds than if we won or not. It was sickening. Even last season some fans were complaining that we ran too much, that LSU should always use a run and shoot system. Or course, those were the same fans more interested in passing stats than wins. But you see my point. I think Saban is trying to say we needed both QBs. Russell was worthless when he couldn't move and had to be removed from the game to ease his cramps. Randell came in and also performed plays that helped us win, knowing he was going to be taken out as soon as Russell was ready to go. It takes guts to do that, and Saban might feel Randell is not getting the credit he may deserve. It is easy to point to stats and say this QB is better, but when it counted on the field both QBs were able to put us in a position to win the game. Russell seems to be getting a ton of credit for what both QBs did to help us win the game. I might like Russell more, but I trust Saban to make the right choice come game time, even if that means starting the QB I don't like as much. Anyway, I figure we pay a ton of money so that Saban can make these tough decisions. If the job is that easy (that anyone can see it) we could pay someone much less money to just take the suggestions on this board and make them happen in the game. We don't see all the factors that Saban has to deal with. Russell has a world of talent, but may not be able to fully run the offense (which is usually the case with freshman QBs). It could be a respect thing with other players . . . we just don't know all the factors, other than raw talent. Saban is not a people person at all, it's one of the things I like about him. He makes tough decisions and sticks by them, running the team instead of allowing the fans to run him. I'd like to see the alum that has the guts to tell Saban, face to face, to start one player over another. We had that with Davey and Booty, and we all know how that turned out. Davey sat because of the pressure to start Booty. I'm glad that kind of thing is behind us.
Irregardless of your opinion ... this is my last "Martin" http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=irregardless irregardless Pronunciation: "ir-i-'gärd-l&s Function: adverb Etymology: probably blend of irrespective and regardless Date: circa 1912 nonstandard : REGARDLESS usage Irregardless originated in dialectal American speech in the early 20th century. Its fairly widespread use in speech called it to the attention of usage commentators as early as 1927. The most frequently repeated remark about it is that "there is no such word." There is such a word, however. It is still used primarily in speech, although it can be found from time to time in edited prose. Its reputation has not risen over the years, and it is still a long way from general acceptance. Use regardless instead. Irregarless of your opinion this is a word. Now ... back to FB ... Saban implied that Flynn might have done better than the other two during the game ... that did not surprise me ... he also wasn't committal on Flynn playing in the ASU game ... other than the obvious role Flynn plays on special teams ... but you got the feeling he was thinking Flynn might play ... just didn't want to come out and say it ... gotta love the guy ... he's a player
Josh Booty played because he looked like John Elway during practices and RoRo had a beer gut and was disinterested. Ro was/is a gamer and I still say he's the best QB to ever play @ LSU. Josh stunk it up most during gametime and was always a little too amped up, hence his 10 yard overthrows on deep balls.
50 thumbs up ... one for every state ... in an election year too What an emotional little gal you are :hihi:
new meat? because you have a certain number of post makes you more knowledgeable about football? get off it.
Fightin(Insanity)TIGER, just to show you I'm a fair guy, I wanted to give you a reputation point for a mere 2/3 of this post (I left the 1st paragraph out, since I'll trade a media-unfriendly Saban whose won a national title and 2 almost forgotten SEC crowns over Gerry Dinardo who won two SEC West Co-Championships in almost 5 years and was a media darling. Who cares how he treats a simple question or the media if he wins?). I agree with the Russell as a playmaker point...The kid doesn't have any stats to put on paper outside of a single half of play, and he missed two VERY important points in that half...But, he's the future, and he only gets better from here. I also agree HIGHLY with your comment about the play-calling. That point may be mitigated somewhat by the youth at wideout. If they're not quite down with the playbook, then the playbook gets shrunk down, and we have trouble with our ability to give multiple looks and appear out of multiple formations. But, overall, the playcalling was trying to get guys out to the perimeter and away from our strength at this point, the interior of the field and the offensive line. Our wideouts don't understand the game yet, they can't block, and they don't have the ability we need them to have relative to offensive success (not to read too Saban-esque, there). Calling those plays is a recipe for ineptitude. That's exactly what we brewed up Saturday...Ineptitude.
The coaches blew it in the first half ... they have already fessed up 2003 is now officially over ... in the minds of all ... Arkansas State Indians are the only team on LSU's mind ... except the fans ... looking ahead to Auburn :dis: ... Just a comparison of teams' performance the 1st week leaves major questions ... Auburn gets an "Oh, boy! Same old Jason Campbell" ... :dis: Will Campbell turn into a world beater this week against MSU???? Who wants to lay any green on that???? :dis: Georgia gets a "WTF" after letting GSU plow thru 'em :dis: Will Uncle Lou rush for 250+ yards against them and take GA to the wire? LSU's performance gets a "WTF" ... but the monsoon conditions negate any real and accurate assessment of LSU's true talent because LSU had not prepared for rain (coaching blunder) and practiced inside their TOP RANKED indoor facility ... we're getting spoiled Does LSU (especially coaching) deserve a "mulligan" :hihi: and another look on a dry field. Hey, there's a helluva poll for you? I think most would say so. Don't be surprised if you see a 180 change this week and see LSU covering a 6 touchdown spread ... Trivia: What is the biggest point spread in LSU's favor during Nick's era? Vegas has put the world on notice in 2004 ... they won't take it in the AZZ anymore when it comes to LSU :hihi:
