I could ignore the original article since it was obviously biased against ND, but even ESPN webpage is talking about the concern about Quinn's stock. Personally, I think its much ado about nothing. Cleavland, at #3, won't pass up the local kid made good, who's already publicly stated that he wants to play for Cleavland. Its not going to be as bad as what happened to Leinart last year, where he went from the number one pick the season before but ended up dropping to the tenth pick the following season. The ESPN article brought up the interesting point that given enough time, you'll find holes in any player. Quinn has been in the glare of the national spotlight for the past two years. JR has had the luxury of not having that pressure, and not having similar spotlight on him untill that Sugar Bowl game where he truly had the best game of his life. I agree that JR is the more natural athlete, and in that regard, has the bigger upside. But, for a QB, more than any other position, intelligence is paramount. And, every scout acknowleges that Quinn has the advantage there. Reminds me a bit of the Ryan Leaf/Peyton Manning draft, where some discounted Manning because he was so studious and wasn't a 'natural'.
Can you please wait till the combine decides who is smarter without putting in your assumptions...And even Vince Young who scored a 6 on the wonderlic turned out to be a heck of a QB. Your mighty Quinn is not better than Russell. Period.
Cleveland will take Adrian Peterson, they are sorely in need of a franchise running back. Plus they already have a hometown QB in Charlie Frye who went to Akron. Brady Quinn sure proved his "intelligence" when he threw those INT's to Zenon :grin: Its more about how you adjust to the NFL type style. Some players are geniuses but dont have "it" which is what you need to play in the NFL. I say that benefits JR seeing as how he's been playing in the toughest conference for the last 3 years and will be less of an adjustment for him to make.
Bitter, with Quinn, I think the problem is that they've run out of time in trying to find exeptional things about him. I'm not taking from him being a "Good" qb but he never lived up to the hype. I think Colt Brennan is a better qb than Quinn but most aren't even aware of his abilities.....I imagine more will be after next year, but just an example of being at a school that the media loves to pimp. Looking at ND's recent records (Lack of wins against quality opponents) and, though bowl games are not always good parinings......9 bowl losses in a row?? What other school would still be held in the same graces, and what other fanbase would be saying, "We're on the way back"? You saw how fast Rutgers, Louisiville, and WV fell to the side with ONE loss. I think next year will be a real eye opener for ND fans and if I'm wrong, I'll be the first to say so. :thumb:
You boys can't have ALL the fun now bitter, you can't claim the "given enough time" argument without acknowledging the other side of the blade. Real winners LOVE the spotlight. They hunt for competition and the don't rest easy until they've left it all on the field. Lady rarely left it all on the field with the possible exception of ucla.......believe me I know what that looks like! As for JR not being in the spotlight..........well he's in it now and seems to not only enjoy it but he's owning it, defining it, and showing scouts that he can handle a different level. Did JR have the game of his life in the Sugar Bowl? I don't know cause I don't know enough about his career thus far but I'll take your word for it. That said, scouts like to see guys who FINISH BIG as much as they finish smart.
Re: You boys can't have ALL the fun now It was not his best game as a Tiger, well maybe some would argue it was his most complete game as a Tiger regarding his consistency and game management. Bitter must not remember all that negative spotlight he was facing during the Auburn and Florida losses and for weeks leading up to the Arkansas game. The media was all over him for being mistake prone. But he always made up for his mistakes and never lost his cool in the pocket. That is why the NFL scouts are so intrigued by him. Quinn might have had to carry his team but he failed carrying his team during the big games.

Naturally they see Lady as having been in the spotlight while down South, they're doing something on Saturdays in the fall but it's probably just a lot of BBQ. If I was a scout I'd be intrigued as to why BQ didn't show more development over his time at ND especially with Charlie "the great QB developer" at the helm. bitter will be by shortly to tell us how it's all Willingham's fault.
Re: You boys can't have ALL the fun now What would bother me more is that you never saw JR hang his head and I did see BQ do it more than once. JR, as a leader, is very composed; whereas, BQ strikes me as the bratty type. May not be a true depiction of him, as I can't say I saw enough to say that with certainty; however, his actions at the combine seem to allign with that mindset too. Spoiled kids don't know what not to say cause their life has always been about what they want, and say what they want.
