    Offense: C+

Not yet ready for prime time. Give the Auburn D credit where its due but neither Randall or Russell is ready to take it all the way. JR is clearly the superior physical talent but he makes far too many mistakes. He overthrew Buster Davis who was wide open in the end zone and made a few other throws that he will complete when he one day has the experience to match his talent. Randall looked good in the first drive and maybe would have maintained the same consistency for at least another couple of drives had he remained in the game but overall I don't think he will ever play a consistent game wire to wire against a quality opponent.

The O line is not opening the same kind of gaping holes that they did last year. There is nothing different about Justin Vincent from last year. He is a back that relies upon following his blockers and making his cuts off of the blocking schemes but he can't make multiple cuts when there are 4 or 5 D linemen to try to evade. The reason Alley Broussard did so much better today is because he is a power runner and can run over a tackler instead of having to juke him out of position.

The receiving corps will be just fine as soon as Green is healthy and JR attains the consistent greatness that we all know that he will. We have potentially the best group of receivers in the country.

    Defense: A- or B+

Basically played great in most situations but I was disappointed in the play of Corey Webster. He was beaten deep at least once (lucky that Campbell overthrew the receiver) and if he had made the interception that Cadillac stole away from him LSU would have probably won.

I was also disappointed in the overall tackling. On some plays they were letting Ronnie Brown get a lot of extra yardage out of plays that should have been for losses, no gain or short gains. Brown is a great RB but he is not Walter Payton or Earl Campbell.

I can't dis the D too much. They are vastly improved from the Oregon State game but there is a lot of room for improvement to get back to the level of last year in the late season.

Special Teams: D (its hard not to give them an F)

What can I say? Bad place kicking, mediocre punting and the only punt return all day went for only a couple of yards. On one punt the nearest Auburn coverage guy was 10 yards away from Webster but he still called for a fair catch. A healthy Skyler Green is a fix for the punt and kickoff returns. The only decent thing about special teams all day was the punt and kickoff coverage.

I agree and I think Randall might have gotten the job done had he been left in. I also think the best way to get JR to play even better is improve our O line and he badly needs to get some "touch" or "feel" on the ball. he trys but it just isn't there. he has a ton of talent and athletic ability but I don't see any kind of accuracy in his passing. maybe he is just green.

Randall isn't the physical specimen JR is, but he is capable, I've seen him do it. he needs pass protection and good play calling. and he needs to bring his A game too. alot to ask but it can be done.

    I give the QB's a D and the offensive Line a D

    RB's and WR's I give a C like you did.

I think webster is feeling overwhelmed by all the things he is having to do this year. hell he might as well play QB too, he might be good at it. LOL

I just realized one more thing...
Maybe we should have Webster playing D only!

He maybe distracted by having to do so many other things that its taking away from
    his defensive abilities?

    Coach Red's Sunday morning second-guessing

    OFFENSE C+
    1. The offensive line needs to eat their Wheaties. The season is young and I don't want to hit this one too hard, . . . but this line has two pre-season All-Americans on it and isn't dominating anybody.

    2. Never ice a hot quarterback. I won't say any more about this either, since it is also smart to never to criticise the Coach of the Year.

    3. Something ain't clicking with the running backs, yet. Nor with the quarterbacks. Changes in personnel and offensive game plan are coming.

    DEFENSE A-
    1. The line is damned strong. Kyle Williams is a stopper. Spears is tremendous.

    2. The linebackers are faster and hit hard. But we still are getting beat over the middle by late-releasing recievers when the safety blitz is on. This was our weakness last year and it hasn't gone away. Nick must fix this fast or we will see it all year--again

    3. Webster needs to concentrate on playing cornerback. He can be an All-American there, but not as an all-purpous back. We need him uninjured and relatively fresh on defense. We have plenty of receivers. Shyrone is back this week and can help Green on punt returns.

    KICKING GAME C-
    1. A punter nees to emerge, . . . and quickly.

    2. A placekicker needs to emerge, . . . and quickly

    Offense "C"

Room for improvement with work and personel changes. QB AND RB but that's a different thread

Defense "C+" secondary ain't getting it done. Line is pretty solid.

Special Teams "D" can't get a 40 yard punt average to save our life. No return. We loose this battle and keep our defense in a bad position protecting a short field. and offense working with a long field.

Webster called for that fair catch after he misplayed the catch on the first punt, which he dropped inside the 10. Also, I noticed after he made the catch, he looked to be a little "hobbled"--which is probably why he called for the fair catch in the first place.

Skyler Green's absence definately hurts our special teams.

Not to sound too cocky, or run the risk of being accused of over-looking Miss State, but I would hold Green out of practice for another week and make a game-time decision on whether he plays for the Bulldogs or not. If he plays, I would only have him in on multiple WR sets, but not much more until he's at least 90% healthy.

Especially since Shyrone Carey returns for State. Before his injury last year he was returning punts better that Skyler Green.

Kicking and punting those are things you do well or you don't. I really do not see alot of improvement coming in these areas.

well hell then think of all the practice time Saban can save by just not worrying about this aspect of the game :dis: :dis: :dis: :dis: :dis:

You might want to re-think this
