Offensive Expectations

Just to be clear, nobody is expecting a national top five offense, right? I mean...that's just not going to be the goal, and anybody who thinks it will is just delusional. We just need to field an offense that can control possession and score when it needs to.

The question is, will the Cam Cameron hire be ridiculed when we are still "only" in the top 30-40%...even if that is by design?

I look at how much everyone loves the chief, but his defenses are almost always in the top ten in the country. Our offense simply will not do that...and I, for one, am fine with that.

    So...what are your expectations?

I'll be happy if we get offense in top 50. We rocked teams
Pretty good with an offense in the 80%. Top 50 would make
    Us a serious contender.

LSU cannot be content with an offense that is not in the top-25. It won't happen instantly, but it needs to improve steadily.

I wouldn't expect a top 40 offense next year though it would certainly be a welcome surprise. That said, I would expect to see improvement, execution wise, this year and reserve my complete judgement until the 2014 season, when Cam's full offense can be expected to be implemented. I definitely like the hire and think Cam will do a considerably better job than Stud.

I could give 2 shits where our offense ranks as long as we are hoisting crystal balls and ranked #1 in January!!!!;)

Usually, teams that have offenses in the top 5 or 10 in the country are that way because they have to be, meaning that their defense sucks. I think many of our fans realize that, and will simply be content with an offense that can control the clock, keep the defense off the field, and be very efficient in the red zone. Honestly, to me, our offense in 2011 (for the first 13 games, anyway) was perfect, especially for an SEC team. That is what I'm hoping to get back to...great balance, and the ability to adapt to what the other defense is giving you.

I will be happy with the offense the 13-0 team had except the ability to make teams pay who stack the box. We had a solid run game that just wore teams down. If we can manage to pass the ball as efficiently as we run it other teams will have a long day. There is just something about imposing your will on other teams that makes it fun to watch.

With all the talent we've recruited over the years, I see no reason we shouldn't have a top-40 offense. I'm tired of all this offensive talent going to waste. Landry and Beckham have serious skills, Mett has shown what he can do even against a very good secondary, and our running attack is killer. I think we have this sense of learned helplessness that's been grown since '08. There's no logical reason we shouldn't have a top-40 offense. Top-25 is tough because of all the Air Raid and Run 'n Shoot offenses, but top-40 should be a regular thing with this talent.

Control the clock. Confuse the opposing DC and make
    Defenses pay for
Stacking the box or spreading out. Keep the other teams guessing. We had become so predictable on offense that a high school coach knew what was coming.

If miles does not stay out of the way we will continue to be inept on offense. Mettenberger is a joke and there needs to be more competition afforded at the spot you cannot continue to assume he will get better. The play calling is the most predictable i have seen since i coached pop warner. the talent that we have at the reciever position has been totally wasted
