According to our latest basketball schedule, LSU is due to come to Corvallis to play our basketball team on December 17, 2006. Taking into consideration the overwhelming hospitality LSU showed Oregon State fans when we opened our respective football seasons two years ago at Tiger Stadium, I would love to return the favor. Unfortunately, it'll probably be too cold or rainy for tailgating, and I also don't know how many Tiger fans would make the trip to Oregon for the game. If, however, I know there are any LSU fans coming to Corvallis, I would do everything I could to make their stay more comfortable. One idea I had was to us the Alumni Center in Corvallis, which is directly across the street from Gill Coliseum. We could have a pregame function for both LSU and Oregon State fans which could also be a fund raiser for Katrina relief. Any thoughts from the good people in Tiger country? Best regards from the west coast, and best of luck on another great football and basketball season! PS -- In case you were wondering what ever became of our freshman place kicker, Alexis Serna, who missed three PAT's in your house, he went on to win the Lou Groza award! Check it out! http://www.lougrozaaward.com/
Sounds like some good ideas Benny, But I don't know if I would count on a whole lot of Tiger fans making it out to Oregon for this game. And I definitely kept up with Serna. Great news for him. Tiger Stadium has a curse on field goal kickers...
That's a great idea, but we might have another hurricane to raise money for by then. Also (and I say this in a friendly way), lose the name. You cannot be cool with a moniker like that.:yelwink2:
I think what I'll do is try to organize a pregame fundraiser for Katrina (and, unfortunately, what may be another...let's hope not). Any fans of either team can come and celebrate and hopefully we can raise some money for relief. Then we can go (or geaux) across the street to cheer the Beavers on to an upset victory! And there's no way I am losing this moniker. Benny Beaver is the proud mascot of Oregon State! :thumb: Just know, Tiger fans, you made the best possible impression any visiting fan could ever hope to experience. You were incredibly generous, yet competitive in a fun way. Contrast that to Fresno State where my wife and I literally feared for our safety and had beer bottles thrown in our direction, people screaming at us at the top of their lungs to go the F home. Terrible. I would go back to LSU in a heartbeat. I will never go to Fresno again. People in our tailgater still talk about LSU with reverence two years later, and I am sure we will as long as we live. Much respect in Corvallis for LSU.
Congrats on the CWS win, BB. I was pulling for OSU in the final round. But I gotta admit, every time I saw a sign that said "Beaver Believer" I cracked up!
We'll be sure to return the favor when the Pups come into BTR this fall. I know I can speak for a lot of Tiger fans when I say that I have been an OSU fan since our meeting in 2004. We met some of your folk in the French Quarter the night before the game and obviously on campus the day of, and were amazed with how friendly ya'll were. It's almost like ya'll are a Northwest version of Louisiana up there. You can ask anyone on the board, I was pulling for the Beavers in the CWS this year. Congratulations!
i knew lsu football or basketball was going to be scheduled up here (Oregon) just after i moved back South. the only lsu games ive been able to attend up here was the crappy first round loss in boise last year.
nice offer benny but i doubt you will get any one other than the team and staff. we cant fill our own arena on a national televised game against kentucky with a team heading to the finals.
Some plane tickets would be a nice start. I would consider such a trip for a football game but I need to see 2 or 3 more Final Fours before I journey that far for basketball.
