In looking at Utah's record along with the MWC, I think the Mountain West was 6-1 regular season against the PAC10. Looks to me like the MWC was much stronger, at least this year. The Pac10 is horrible, no matter what little bowl streak they put together... A loose comparison: Utah versus USC: UTAH by way of Oregon St. TCU versus Oregon: TCU by way of Boise St. BYU versus Arizona: BYU by way of New Mexico New Mexico versus CAL: New Mexico by way of Arizona UNLV versus ARizona St: UNLV won game. Air Force versus Oregon St:???
personally, I think trying to make an argument this way is pointless. You can't say we be them, they beat you, so therefore, I am better than you. there is so much more that goes into it, like who matches up well vs whom. plus, arizona beat BYU in the bowl game.
