Is that considered a personal foul? Not trying to be a smart ass, I just really don't know the answer.
Suffice to say, it's always a good sign of a crap call when the "experts" in the booth and behind the scenes can't figure it out in time to explain the call during the broadcast.
its a new rule that people arent used to. saban wasnt too happy about it, but if its a rule we have to abide by it. id rather lose on a rule that actualy exists than on a boneheaded call by the refs. the defense played fairly well but benefited by at least one dropped ball that might have been a TD and a few overthrows by campbell that would have given auburn big gains. the defense has ALOT to work on. and as much as the defense has to work on, the offense's inadequacies make them seem small. seeing what i saw this week i think we need to start randall and if he keeps doing well let him play. if he struggles then let russell come in for a while. i think that was the plan today, but i dont think it was implemented well. it seems like almost all of our substitutions screwed with any offense continuity we might have. additionally, vincent is a good speed back, but i think you need to use him like weve tried to use addai and give addai and broussard most of the reps in the backfield. i get frustrated with the offense and feel like blaming jimbo fisher. its probably not his fault, though. all said, the score of the game was very indicitave of the way the game went. we are a young team and we have to hope that we can find an offensive identity.
It's a new rule this year, and it's a chickenchit rule. But it is an NCAA rule and the players should have known. Backs cannot jump up and come down on linemen. But I don't understand how it is a personal foul when you come down on your own teammate.
That is what I was wondering. I did not see him land directly on a AU lineman. I saw him bump into a LSU player and maybe they then maybe bumped an AU player but could not really say for sure. If a player reestablishes himself after his leap and then falls on or hits a lineman by a different action should it still be a penalty (and at that point is probably after the play)? And What it it took place after the kick was waved off as no good, would it then be a penalty that should have been enforced on the kick off? These are not questions to you Red just questions that I could not answer myself after reading the rule. Do not get me wrong we played bad and deserved to lose. I would have rather just had AU make the first kick than have had this kind of call by a ref play such a big part in the game.
For the guy who said the tiger D didnt get it done.. what f*cking game were you watching? yeah, they did good on the rush, but they were held to 3 points for 59 minutes... if there is a problem, its the offense. it spuddered when they pulled randall. randall gave them the playaction bootleg threat. without him, the corners were coming hard from the corners and killing the cutback on runs. when randall was in they had to stay off to play the bootleg. bad O call by saban and company.
Doesnt matter when its called, its whether its a deadball foul or not. this one obviously wasnt. Stupid rule, yes but a rule that's there. BS the refs call it in that situation. Holding calls happen all the time that dont affect the play yet kickoffs and huge plays are constantly brought back.... Saban will not harp on this as an excuse since it leads to his players looking for excuses instead of with themselves....unlike little petey. That way next time, we'll be more apt to take care of business on the field instead of playing as conservatively. This will be a learning step. jimbo and nick need to get on the same page. i think jimbo may have called for the QB switch and Nick let it go beyond his better judgement, based on is comments. I think they analyze and rework things so much the lose sight of the obvious at times this year. Seemed we did play not to win for quite a stretch in the 2nd half. But hey, they have new guys they are trying to get experience to find the playmakers as well as trying to win games at the same time. Not an easy task and always a learning experience for everyone involved.
I'm waiting for the new rule next year....."Personal foul on # 1. Illegally jumping too high, resulting in a blocked kick. Replay the extra point".
I doubt that'd work. The refs aren't going to call that unless they're looking for it real hard. Kind of like at Auburn. It couldn't have been more obvious if he'd thrown the flag before the ball was even snapped. It seems to me this is one of those calls that is always justifiable.
The penalty was not for jumping on someone's back to get higher, it was for landing on a trailerpark resident on the way down.
