I doubt it. Too much money at stake.

That's what worried me when I heard about it. Discontent is usually infectious, and I hope it doesn't spread, if a player brought this forward. Also, another reason I hope it isn't true is that it is sad if reporting is the first instinct of a player to bump off competition or get even with a coach that is bugging them, in their eyes.

Discontent over personal playing time is not infectious.

What would be sad is a coach giving a player anything at all to report. And what we don't yet know is the seriousness of the charge. We had a basketball assistant coach get reprimanded once for buying a recruit a Whataburger after he had caused the player to miss lunch and dinner. But we got hammered when a booster gave a basketball player $5,000 just because he asked for it. Then he turned around and offered the NCAA the evidence if they would let him transfer without sitting a year. They did and he did and Dale was gone.

Discontent can be infectious if it pertains to something broader than personal playing time. The way to deal with the playing time that most players take is transfer, at least that was the path of the "greatest" QB recruit Spurrier got, just to bench.

And you're right if a coach gives the player reason to report

Re: Anybody Know about the recruiting violation that is suppossed to be announced tomorrow rumor?

From what I have heard, LSU would not be required to fire McCarthy but more of a reason for LSU to go ahead and clean house. Zero tolerance...

Guess it depends on your definition of Major. I consider anything that involves probation, forfeiting games, multiple lost scholarships as major. Which doesn't seem like the case so far. Maybe I am wrong but word is LSU doesn't expect much to come from it.

A minor violation would include suspensions of said player/players, firing said coach, dismal of said player, and fines.

Middle of the road would include vacating wins which isn't the case here, lose of 1-3 scholarships, multiple suspensions, and multiple dismissals.

Here are the players that McCarthy brought in last year:

    Morris Claiborne
    Chris Davenport
    Michael Ford
    Akiem Hicks
    Bennie Logan
    Rueben Randle

If the rumors are to be believed to be accurate, that leaves Ford, Davenport, Hicks and Logan as the likely candidates.

Doing this would eliminate any chance of ever getting another coaching job at a major university for McCarthy. Not a smart move.

I have been told by people who scout that Jefferson makes good decisions. He just doesn't make them quickly enough.

Yeah, that sucks. I can't imagine being HC and everything he's done or has been done while he was at the helm being looked at, cross-examined, and debated by fans, the AD, AND the NCAA.

That is an even worse problem, amigo. It keeps him from even having an opportunity to make a good decision. You can coach a player to make smarter decisions. I'm not sure that you can coach one to be quicker on the analytical uptake.
