Actually I love this time of year, plenty of reports and some real action. It's the months leading up to now that suck.

TigerRag - (8.6) PRACTICE REPORT: Thursday Afternoon

Afternoon practice with the freshmen class.

Its even more exciting.
Claiborne is lighting it up.

It was the first workout for the Tiger freshmen Thursday afternoon as the LSU Tigers’ rookies and selected veterans took to the practice field at the Charles McClendon Practice Facility.

Upon arrival, you couldn’t help but notice LSU’s impressive duo of freshman running backs Michael Ford and Drayton Calhoun. To put these newcomers in perspective, Ford is quite similar to Charles Scott – only taller. Calhoun seems to be more a Richard Murphy-type running back and has the body of a cornerback than a running back.

Randle reported to camp at 6-3, 195, but he is undoubtedly exceeding his measurements. Plus, the nation’s top-ranked receiver displayed some pretty nifty hands as well. He didn’t necessarily make any leaping catches, but caught everything thrown his way crisply.

Randle left the acrobatics to Shreveport freshman Morris Claiborne.

Highly underrated coming out of Fair Park High School, Claiborne made a couple of leaping grabs and looks as if he is out to prove his worth. And with the LSU receiving corps lacking serious depth, Claiborne could factor into the mix as a true freshman.

Miles said afterwards Claiborne also got some reps at cornerback.

There were a number of high school superstars dotting the practice field Thursday afternoon, but no other group as whole was more impressive than the defensive line.

Some of the biggest names of the Class of 2009 can be found along the defensive front – Chris Davenport, Sam Montgomery and Josh Downs. But the one player that stood out, visually that is, was Mike Brockers.

The true freshman from Houston is every bit of the 6-6 he is listed as on the roster. But Brockers appeared much heavier (in a good way) than just 255 pounds. According to LSU’s website, he has officially been weighed at 290.

Law of the Sovereign Nation of Mingovia dictates that Barkevious shall engage in practice with whomever he deems fit to practice with.
