I was wondering, is he playing baseball for Ole Miss, or did he sign a pro contract, or neither?

He is at Ole Miss and one of my son's friends was a redshirt frosh there also. He told my son that Lane is a good QB and that he's a lot faster than he thought he would be and has a strong arm. He is not on the baseball roster right now as I went and looked to reply to this post. He can't be drafted again till his third year in the program I think.

Word here in Monroe/West Monroe is that he will redshirt in baseball this year so he can participate in Spring Football to try and win the starting QB job.

I could be wrong, but since he isn't playing baseball and isn't on a baseball scholarship, I believe he can sign a baseball free agent contract at any time. That's my understanding. It's only when you sign a LOI to play BASEBALL that the 3 year rule comes into play for the draft. He's already gone undrafted (and didn't sign with a college to play baseball) so he's technically a free agent.

Keeping his options open in case he doesn't win the starting QB
    position at Ole Miss, perhaps?

Yeah, we know from past history he gets out of the kitchen before the fire even gets hot.

Don't know if you know the story of Bob Lane's time at LSU in the late 70's...but let's just say that in the aforementioned regard,
like father, like son. So Robert's behavior isn't really surprising.

The rules on college baseball eligibility are kinda screwy. But I'll try to explain the options.
    1. You can go directly to Pro Ball directly out of high school.
    2. You can opt to go to JC and be drafted at anytime to go Pro.
    or
    3. You must play (I think) 2 years of college baseball then you are
able to go back into the draft.
I am pretty sure that is how it goes. Correct me (and I know you will) if I am wrong. My point being that if sets foot on the diamond this year I think he will be stuck at Ole Miss through next spring. If he is trying to go the Baseball route.

I know he's #2 on the depth chart at Ole Miss. Probably not what he bargained for.
