1. CBS Sportsline ranks the mens' Tigers as #17 on its Sportsline Top 25.

AP Poll does not have us in the top 25, but we're the second team away from getting in, behind North Carolina at 109 votes (call it #27).

In the Coaches poll, again we're not in the top 25. We fall behind Michigan, Georgetown, UAB, Xavier, Northern Iowa and Colorado, as the seventh team looking in (#32).

In CBS's simulated RPI rankings we're standing in at #26 (not taking into account the 'Bama game, so it's not the most current it could be), with a #17 strength of schedule ranking. In contrast, they rank Florida at #19, with a #136 SOS. Tennessee (shockingly) still in at a very high #3, with a #8 ranked SOS.

Probably the RPI matters most as we near the tourney. Of note, our 5 non-conference biggest opponents? UConn (#8), Ohio State (#14), Northern Iowa (#15), Cincy (#18), and West Virginia (#27). Not shabby.

SEC teams ranked: Tennessee (#3), Florida (#19), LSU (#26), Vanderbilt (#43), Arkansas (#49), Kentucky (#52), Georgia (#58) and Alabama (#63).
  2. I'd rather this team keep flying under the radar for the time being. No need for the players to start hearing/reading how good they are when we are 8 weeks away from the tourney.

    Just keep winning...
  3. found out perhaps why LSU is getting jacked by coaches poll---no voter coaches for team that's played LSU (unless i missed one).

btw, huggins still has a vote.

    one sec coach.

The USA TODAY/ESPN Board of Coaches is made up of 31 Division I head coaches. All are members of the National Association of Basketball Coaches. The 2003-04 board: Dana Altman, Creighton; Tevester Anderson, Jackson State; Eddie Biedenbach, North Carolina-Asheville; Jim Boeheim, Syracuse; Barry Collier, Nebraska; Charlie Coles, Miami (OH); Dick Davey, Santa Clara; Fran Dunphy, Pennsylvania; Mick Durham, Montana State; Rob Evans, Arizona State; Steve Fisher, San Diego State; Pat Flannery, Bucknell; Greg Graham, Boise State; Tom Green, Fairleigh Dickinson; David Henderson, Delaware; Bob Huggins, Cincinnati; Gene Keady, Purdue; Johnny Jones, North Texas; Eddie McCarter, Texas-Arlington; Bob McKillop, Davidson; Phil Martelli, Saint Joseph's; Joe Mihalich, Niagara; Ronald "Fang" Mitchell, Coppin State; Dave Odom, South Carolina; Rick Samuels, Eastern Illinois; Kirk Speraw, Central Florida; Bob Thomason, Pacific; Perry Watson, Detroit Mercy; Gary Williams, Maryland; Dennis Wolff, Boston University; Rich Zvosec, Missouri-Kansas City
  4. And that SEC coach is an old school ACC guy.
  5. LSU is up to 27 in the latest RPI on warrennolan.com. Tenn is all the way up to 3. The SEC is 4th behind the Big 10, Big East and ACC.

The NCAA will release their RPI next Thursday...
  6. Yeah. I don't need another UAB debacle! :eek::redface:
  7. Ok, for those diehards watching the polls, hawking the RPI and analyzing bracketology... I LOVE the fact that Tiger fans are getting jazzed about March Madness at ... the end of January!

So, I'll also say that in advance of new polls that should come out soon, we can only hope some voters really are buying into the new RPIs, ESPN power 16, and other media outlets that say the LSU fightin' bball Tigers are for real.

In this past weekend's action, here are some of the key teams that lost (listed by AP rankings):

#16 Ohio State loses to unranked Iowa (unlikely to drop out of the top 25 & Iowa's good)
#18 Maryland loses to unranked Temple (perhaps a fall from grace?)
#22 Louisville loses to unranked Rutgers (ok, I'm feeling better)
#23 Wisconsin loses to unranked Michigan (ok, I'm feeling good)

(and #25 Syracuse in dogfight with Seton Hall playing right now...)

With the last polls showing the Tigers just missing from the top 25, I think Wisconsin and Louisville's losses make room for the Tigers to crack the top 25, if I'm a voter... how high remains to be seen, but I'd love to see us at #23.

:geauxtige LSU! :bball: With a 14-5 record and a top 20 SOS, we compare at least as well as the last three teams mentioned above with 5 or more losses.

Man, is there anyone else who ALSO thinks... why aren't we ahead of Tennessee (#19/20)? I mean they get pub for beating FL and Texas, but we beat them handily, and FL turns out to be not quite as good as everyone thought. You've got a team of guards who can hit the three on a streaky night and a "hot" coach...?:angryfire LSU should be ranked as high as Tennessee, IMO.
