I spent 3 years in SW Oklahoma and heard it pronounced Ar-KAN-zus many times.

On the other hand, Les could have been taking a shot at the Razor-necks:

I heard it that way many times growing up in north Louisiana (Baja Arkansas). The same folks say "Clempson". Always with a "P".

i say the whole damned state is irrelevant no matter how you pronounce it.

We have this new tweeker chick in the office FRESH in from great state of R-Kansas. She took a good look at my purple wall and hasn't said a word since.
She wears sunglasses when she arrives at 6:00 am! Any messages from the TF nation will be passed on accordingly at my pleasure. :thumb:

Any equal opportunity specialist out there thinks there could be a harassment case here?

California is such a legalistically minded state, you never know.

    My head hurts. :insane:

    Here's a simpler explanation: He's a moron.

I believe that explains it. And I really like the guy... He just doesn't have a high IQ like a Houston Nutt or a Curley Hallman.

He never pronounced Matt Leinart's name correctly either. That was always fun to hear. I wonder how he pronounces "Nuclear" ???

the french got it wrong? umm they invented the word (and those of most of the important parts of this state). it was the ignorant uneducated elites of arkansas that got it wrong when they made the law.

the original french spelling would have been pronounced closer to arkansus than arkansaw.

It's not that hard to figure out:

1-He was very preoccupied and emotional, so he misspoke (like when he said, "I play football for LSU..." Like most things Les, we kinda knew what he meant.

2-With the national title game in sight, he's gotta focus a bit on likely opponents, and Kansas is at the top of that list. Slip based on him thinking of the Jayhawks more than usual right now.

Well, I'm still hoping he did it on purpose, to get under their skin. A little harmless, plausibly deniable disrespect.

No way. Would it be equally excusable if he said Caylifornia or Floreeda?
