By the time the end of the season rolls around 2 of those top twenty teams you say we played most likely won't be in the top 20 and Clemson most likely won't either. It does not matter what they were ranked when we played them, but how they have turned out to be. Miami lost their one game to a presently ranked opponent but that team happens to be tohught of as the 8 best team at this time, so I can understand the resoning for haivng them ahead of LSU right now. It will all come out in the wash in the next few weeks I think. If we beat Bama and Miami beats Va Tech and Ga Tech, I think they stay ahead of us though.

Wow, talk about selectively parsing "facts". The fact that you count a 3-4 Tennessee team as one of LSU's "top 20 games" is ridiculous...but, to answer your precise question, Miami is ahead of LSU mainly b/c their loss---to a legitimate top 20 team---took place earlier in the season than LSU's loss to a sub-500 team.

    I thought Va Tech did?

I know they do in points given up a game, which is the only REAL stat in my book when it comes to defense

ND's deal has two stipulations I believe. They have to win 9, and finish inside a certain postition in the ranking. If they finish with 9 wins, but outside that ranking...no guaranteed bcs. If they finish inside that ranking, but with 8 wins, no bcs (unlikely). I think the chances of a ND with a 'star' coach such as Weis not getting a BCS bid is slim to none.

Both right.... Miami #1 overall defense, VT #1 scoring defense.... thru Saturday's games.

Actually the SEC has 5 teams in the top 17 for total defense, which either means the league has great defense or no offense ( see the ESPN article on this subject from last week).

... probably the latter... as the SEC only has two schools in the top 40 for offense... Auburn at 33rd and LSU at 39th.
Hell, Iowa is ranked 36th offensively... and I'm here to tell ya we are FAR from great on offense this year.:hihi:

the offense rankings are low because the defense's are so good. chicken or the egg? I'd like an Iowa rematch.... :hihi:

Unless we get hoppin' and win out @ NW, @ Wisconsin, then H to Minnesota... we're going to either Nashville or Detroit (Gawd, life can be sad)... so I think you'll be in a tad better bowl.:thumb:

The defense in the SEC is why no teams are ranked very high in the offensive categories. Not too mention the SEC has had so many key offensive players injured. No other conference can hold a candle to the defense played in the SEC this year.
