I know that players can play limited amounts of time in the first three games of the season and still redshirt. Do you think that since this was (per the original schedule) our "first" game of the season, that he could be given a redshirt? If Miles is using this theory, I hope he cleared it with the NCAA.

The NCAA would never do that for LSU, maybe if it was USC.

If you play one play (even in the 1st 3 games), you lose your shirt, unless you can prove medical hardship due to injury in the 1st 3 games. Miles talked about this last week on his radio show. The medical hardship is tough to prove without having a major injury. So, if preserving the redshirt is of significant importance, (e.g., Perrilloux), you would not put a kid in the game at all and risk it.

That's correct. If you play one play you lose the redshirt unless you were injured in one of the first three games. If you're injured in game #8....no redshirt. Game #2, redshirt.

This may clear up the medical redshirt issue. From an NCAA article on their website:

That tells me that it's not the first 3 games as most of us thought, but rather it is 3 games during the first half of the season. This would explain how Herman Johnson received a redshirt last year even though he played in the 4th game against MSU.

Is it safe to assume Alley Broussard will get either a Medical Redshirt or a regular Redshirt this year?

Can you still redshirt in a later season if you didn't redshirt your freshman year?

You can get a medical redshirt even though you redshirt your freshman year.

He'll get a regular redshirt. You have 5 years to play 4 ... doesn't matter which year you redshirt.

A 6th year of eligibility isn't granted that often no matter what the circumstances.
