One can give rep on whatever criteria one wishes. That's why you can't take it too seriously.

Some folks give red or green freely based on whether they agree with the post or not. Others only give red rarely, when they think the post is inappropriate or rude. They also give green rarely, when they think a post is exceptional.

A few folks just post rep randomly. A few post red repeatedly against others they dislike. One of us is a true rep-aholic who gets on green sprees and later on red sprees, starting threads and trading rep like baseball cards. He runs up and down the rep rankings and has apparently learned how to dramatically alter his own post count.

Me, I give green freely to posts that I agree with and that I think are well-stated. I also give green to posts with style, wit, and originality even if I disagree. I rarely give red. Usually just to low-post flamers and to retaliate against some doofus who gave me red unjustly.

All in all, you can't judge an internet character by his rep count. High green is just an easy way to quickly grasp whether a poster has paid his dues and is listened to seriously. High red indicates that people agree that a poster is full of chit.

A low green count only means that someone is fairly new . . . or just doesn't post his opinions very much. No big deal, we've all been there.

I like Purple and Gold hardly have time to post at all due to time constraints. However, how the hell did I get a negative rep. point?? I haven't posted in a while.

I have come to accept that i will get Red sometimes even though i disagree with it.

I will get green sometimes too.

I just miss the color purple. This forum discriminates against the color purple.

Why cant it be Purple and Gold.

I will protest against this forum until it recognizes the rights of Purple and Gold.

    These colors have rights too.

I will be contacting my attorney and he will be in touch with the forum administrators getting an injunction against the use of red and green.

Take that you red giving communist sympathizers.

Viva la Purple and Gold !!!

I guess I could have held off on giving you red since you're new and weren't here around the time we had nothing but threads commenting on how it's not fair how the media loves USC. It got old fast and when I saw your thread I was reminded of it. Some of us just get tired of hearing about how the medias supposedly hates LSU and loves USC.

    Nothing personal.:thumb:

I have a pretty good rep on pretty few posts... I guess you have to just voice a good opinion and voice it well to get a good rep...?
