This is the first time I heard that Chris Jackson's parents did not sign off on his LOI so he just enrolled at LSU in the fall. While I am of an age that I think that children should listen to their parents (and then make their own decisions), I also believe one should never let it get to that point - where the parent refuses to sign and the kid goes to a college over this refusal. That is really sad. While I guess this is old news, does anyone know what caused the Chris Jackson problem?

According to the Tampa Tribune, RJF should make his decision by Friday. It appears that the dilemna is the same that he wants to play for LSU but his parents want USF. See the url below for the full story. The HS Coach appears mystified by the process as well.

Chris Jackson's mother was the problem. She basically saw her son as a ticket
out of her minimum wage existence, and tried to auction him off to the highest bidder.

Rickey appears to be waiting out his parents until they finally give in to his playing at LSU.

Let's hope the kid has enough fortitude to win out.

And I'm betting that the track porogram at LSU put us over the top again, maybe he convinced his poppa that going to LSU would give hima great chance to represent Haiti in the Olympics or something. Just a thought.

He had 93 tackles, 15 sacks, three interceptions and six forced fumbles as a senior at the Class 6A school. He is a two-time Florida state shot put champion and his distance of 65 feet, 7 inches was among the three best efforts in the nation last year. Francois, who picked LSU instead of South Florida, also visited North Carolina State.

"I think he wanted to go to LSU all the time," Carol City coach Walt Frazier said. "His parents wanted him to go to South Florida to be close to home. That's why this took so long.

"He felt good about the things he heard at LSU on his trip and he really likes the track program. He had tremendous explosion as a player. He runs well and he is naturally strong. The kids nicknamed him 'Freak' because he does things on the field normal players cannot do."

Jean-Francois is ready to roll

It was close to two weeks after signing day with Rivals100 defensive end Ricky Jean-Francois finally was able to sign his national letter of intent with LSU and now after a lot hard work in the classroom, he will be able to join the other Tiger signees in Baton Rouge this summer.

Carol City's Ricky Jean-Francois and Southwest's Missy Penna were named athletes of the year -- again:

Jean-Francois, a standout defensive end and track star, became the first male athlete in county history to win the coveted Athlete of the Year award twice. ...

Just as quiet and humble was the LSU-bound Jean-Francois. The normally stoic senior didn't crack a smile when he won his awards for Track and Field Athlete of the Year or the overall Athlete of the Year trophy. When he got home from school, he handed both awards to his older brother, whom he called his inspiration.

''I want him to remember me when I go off to school,'' Jean-Francois said of his brother, who is deaf. ``Besides, he's the guy who was always there for me, pushing me. I love him.''

Before he got home to his brother, Jean-Francois did have an interesting topic to discuss when he got back to fourth period and his American Government class at Carol City.

''My teacher, Mr. Moore, asked everyone if I should be considered the greatest athlete in county history,'' said the five-time state champion in track and field and two-time All-State football selection. ``We talked about it for the whole class -- and I'm not sure if I'm even the best in Carol City history. People talk about Willie Williams, Santana Moss, Donald Heaven. Hey, I'm just happy if I can be up there with those guys.''
