1. A couple of notes here...
    • While Deceks is an Auburn fan, he's one of the few that are reasonable and well-educated. We've discussed things about both programs over the years and with the exception of a few times (I could count them on one hand) his info is correct.
    • We are looking at three players, Brandon Deaderick, Roy Upchurch and Brandon Fanney. Deaderick's charges were by far the worse. Deaderick was chared with his involvement in the scuffle, resisting arrest and giving a false name. (IF you recall, this happened with a player {a body on the team is a more apt description} and he had a gun charge and Shula dismissed him)
    • The altercation he and Upchurch were involved with doesn't come as a surprise. I say that not meaning to imply that these players have character issues but when you combine alcohol and testosterone together these things happen.
    • Out of the three, Upchurch had the best shot at starting and may still have that opportunity.
    • Like you mentioned, if the players ahead of them (Deaderick and Fanney) on the depth chart don't get injured they wouldn't have starting roles this season. A lot of playing time? Don't have a doubt in your mind about it.
    • There is a huge difference between punishment and discipline. HUGE! Do you think missing a game vs Western Carolina or running the steps for a month would make a greater impact? Me? From players I've talked to, the later.
    • Situations like this have happened before, and recently. The difference you see here, unfortunately, falls into the category of where the bar was and the type of patrons that frequent it. We had a "altercation" with starters at a bar that wasn't on The Strip, that wasn't frequented by your white-bred frat-boy type and not only did it NOT make the papers, but didn't even involve the police.

  2. That Texas influence is starting to change you D! Problem is, it still looks like a truck, and...well...it's not what I would call a manufacturer whose name is linked with reliable.
  3. Saban's attitude at LSU was to atke care of the big stuff, but not to sweat the small stuff. I've heard a lot of rumors that he looked the other way at a LOT of casual marijuana use, to the point where LSU football kind of got a reputation for it. He didn't tolerate the bar fights and things like that though.
  4. Perfectly stated.
  5. Well.....................LSU is odds on favorite to beat Bama this year. After that, it will be a toss up at best. The one thing that I can guarantee everyone else in the SEC is that from year 2 on, they will not look forward to playing Bama. They will measure their season by the play of that game.

All of us old timer fans that were weaned on Bryant football are the minority now. With age has also come the glaring reality that the level of football down here (SEC) is as good or better than it was during Bryant's' tenure, but the wealth of athletes has been spread out on a much more even footing.
The younger fans have never had the expectations that us old guard took for granted. The last 10 -15 years has made the average Bama fan yearn for a solid program that fields competitive teams year in and year out.

With that being said, I believe that Saban has walked into as good of or better situation than when he came to LSU. The fan base is just as enthusiastic and the facilities are as good as any in the country.

Every school has the "unrealistic lunatic fans", but should anyone be expecting the Bama Nation to implode and devour the staff.
    Well.....you would be wrong.
  6. Maybe, maybe not - don't count your chickens before they hatch - several teams in the SEC feel the same way -- with reason.

  7. That would be reggies, fred's, JL's, Varsity....yeah everywhere. the varsity is a joke now. $10 cover!!

  8. Wow! The varsity has really gotten full of themselves, huh? I thought he may be talking about triple A but I don't even know if that place is still open. I loved going to the comedy club inside there. The Funny Bone, I think?
  9. It was Triple A's. That place gave me the willies. I've never been in another place like it before or since.

The Varsity was not like that back in the day. When I was in college, the Varsity was the place to go for live music by regional/national acts. It started doing a lot more '80s retro and stuff like that after I graduated. I guess that's when it started losing its cool/hip image and went more towards the fratty meat market type place.

I have never, not even once in my life, been to a Tigerland bar. Guess I'm too old now, at 33.

Despite what people might say about those dress codes being about keeping the drug crowds out, it is most certainly not about keeping drug crowds out. I assure you those places aren't interested in keeping LSD, X, or cocaine out. Those places are full to overflowing with that stuff. They're interested in keeping out the counterculture, poor minorities, etc. Basically anyone who doesn't contribute to the meat-market fratty image they're trying to convey.

    • One of the few? A little in state ribbing there. I bet he doesn't hold out his pinky when sipping drinks, though. :D

Alcohol? Are they of age? Or did they borrow Perriloux's brother's ID as well.
