We were talking yesterday after watching the Miami Game and everyone thought Saban should have just stayed put at LSU. He had everything and now what does he have. Can't win much of anything in the NFL after 3 seasons and probably won't for years to come. NFL is a different beast than college and this will be his second time around in a coaching position in the NFL. Some coaches just don't get it. They are made for College coaching and not the NFL. Good thing he is in Miami and not Philly or some place like that cause they would have tossed his butt out by now or be really close to it. He has almost absolute power in Miami and he may need it. Man what a shame. B
Colin Cowherd is talking about Nick Saban on ESPN radio now and really ripping him. He's saying how he was beloved at LSU, could have had his way there, but traded it away for more money and has to be miserable right now.

I think the only big name coach who avoided this is Coach K and I think Dean Smith as well. Anybody have any others?
Pete Carroll too. Does anyone have an idea how they could be such great college football coaches but struggle in the NFL. It's obviously a different skill level but these guys we're talking about know the "X's" and "O's". I'm just curious.
1) You are unable to bring exactly the type of people that you want into your system. You are limited to the players that are available in free agency, in the draft, and are currently under contract. There is a salary cap you must stay under. 2) These are paid professionals. You cannot supervise them 100% of the time like you can in college. The attitude cannot be the same of screaming at them after every bad play, because they will quit on you. See Tom Coughlin in J-ville. There is a problem as well in that players don't always give 100% once they get paid (See Aaron Brooks)
I think it's too soon to call Nick a bust in the NFL. It's not looking good but he has always had a lot of work to do down there. I also dont blame him for taking the promotion from college. I am disappointed he left but who knows, he could be back here in a few years.
Yeah but he took Culpepper instead which was also a gamble and it turns out his knee is not fully healed. Success or failure for teams in the middle of the pack is a thin margin in the NFL. College fooball will always be there if he leaves the pro ranks.
