I haven't read this anywhere, but the thought came to mind when I read this article:

Don't think the Saints have the cap space to afford him, but would love to have him on the team. Would certainly fill a hole.

The saints would yet again get a star player on the downside of his career.

Dre Bly just got cut, too.

They are old, but anything's an upgrade from the 2ndary that we have now.

Definitely think he would be a good pick up, getting two veterans CBs at bargain contracts will definitely help the Saints on their Super Bowl quest at the same time allowing the young CBs that we may draft and on roster to learn from these veterans as well. We play against a tough schedule this year and will need secondary depth.

Free Agency-Saints Priority

HERE is a great article on the frenzied free agency period that starts on Friday.

Quarterback — Kurt Warner, Jeff Garcia, Kerry Collins, Rex Grossman, Byron Leftwich. Interest — Low/medium.
The question for the Saints is at backup quarterback. Mark Brunell may become a salary-cap casualty as he’s set to make $1.1 million in base salary in 2009. Joey Harrington should become a free agent later this week, but Payton seems as if he wants Harrington to be Brees’ eventual backup.
Running back — Derrick Ward, Fred Taylor, Deuce McAllister, Cedric Benson, Ricky Williams, Correll Buckhalter. Interest — Medium/high.
Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis didn’t hide the fact the Saints will take a look at running backs during the free agency and the draft. It gives me the impression the Saints aren’t fully sold on Reggie Bush, Pierre Thomas or Mike Bell to be the bruising back Payton and gang know they need.
Wide receiver — T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Devery Henderson, Amani Toomer, Lance Moore (restricted), Mark Clayton (restricted), Michael Jenkins, Nate Washington, Ronald Curry. Interest — Low/medium.
Moore was extended his tender a couple of days ago and some team may dabble for his services. Houshmandzadeh is the big-time name, but the Saints won’t be a player and probably don’t need him with the plethora of offensive weapons. Henderson is again a free agent the Saints might not have to overpay for again, like last offseason.
Tight end — Owen Daniels (restricted), L.J. Smith, Mark Campbell, Jerramy Stevens, Leonard Pope. Interest — Medium.
I list Mark Campbell only because it’s unlikely he’ll be back because the Saints are nearing a deal for Dan Campbell, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune. Jeremy Shockey will eye this season as a year for redemption, and Billy Miller should maintain a steady role in the offense.
Offensive linemen — Stacy Andrews, Jahri Evans (restricted), Jeff Saturday, Jon Stinchcomb, Jon Runyan, Matt Birk, Jason Brown, Khalif Barnes. Interest — Medium/high.

The interest here all depends on Evans and Stinchcomb. If the Saints re-sign Stinchcomb and no one goes after Evans, the interest falls dramatically. If/when a team extends an offer sheet to Evans, things could get dicey despite the compensation of Evans’ tender being a first- and third-round pick. The team may also be searching for depth as guard Jamar Nesbit may also be out in New Orleans.
Defensive tackle — Albert Haynesworth, Dewayne Robertson, Jovan Haye, Tank Johnson, Rocky Bernard. Interest — Low/medium.
Sedrick Ellis and Kendrick Clancy will enter next season as the starters. The Saints are looking more for depth than anything else with Brian Young and Hollis Thomas as possible cap casualties and Antwan Lake could be lost to free agency. The Saints will have DeMario Pressley, James Reed and Montavious Stanley competing for roster spots. Haynesworth is the best player on the market of any position.

Defensive end — Chris Canty, Igor Ohlshansky, Antonio Smith, Bertrand Berry. Interest — Low.
The franchise tagging of the Panthers’ Julius Peppers deflates the defensive-end crop. The Saints are set with Will Smith, Charles Grant, Bobby McCray and Jeff Charleston. But what happens if Smith and Grant are suspended for four games because of the StarCaps controversy?
Linebacker — Ray Lewis, Jonathan Vilma, Bart Scott, Mike Peterson, Michael Boley. Interest — Medium/high.
This interest falls to zero if the Saints lock up Vilma to a long-term deal. Boley would have been an option, but Dan Morgan will challenge Scott Shanle for the starting job on the weakside. It would surprise me if Lewis ended up leaving Baltimore, but Scott could be a different story.
Cornerback — Chris McAlister, Dre Bly, Philip Buchanon, DeAngelo Hall, Leigh Bodden, Bryant McFadden. Interest — High.
There seem to be plenty of capable corners on the market. I don’t believe the Saints will chalk up significant cash for any of the better players, though, as their first-round pick should be a corner if they don’t trade down from No. 14. Leigh Torrence was also tendered a contract for the Saints a couple of days ago.
Safety — Darren Sharper, Sean Jones, Dawan Landry (restricted), Brian Dawkins, Mike Brown, Yeremiah Bell, Jarrad Page (restricted), Gibril Wilson. Interest — High.
Jones is the best pure free safety of the group and will command top dollar. The Saints realize they badly need to address their free safety spot. Sharper is certainly a known commodity as he’s a four-time All-Pro selection. There’s plenty of chatter concerning Mike McKenzie moving to free safety. That’s another notion I don’t buy.

As you can see, ALOT of names are out there from Ray Lewis and Ricky Williams to T.J. Houzmanzedah and DeAngelo Hall. While none of the ones that I just mentioned are likely...crazier things have happened.

Who would you like to see the Saints acquire in free agency?

ESPN has an insider article mentioning the possiblilty of Darren Sharper.

I really think they need to get our Defense in shape. Lock up all our offensive players and get a rush blocker and then spend everything else on Def improvements, particularly secondary.

I agree Krypto, but I've read a couple of different articles where it seems like they are pretty serious at maybe looking at a RB. IF that's the route that the Saints wish to go, they should sew up a RB somewhere in the draft and address the defensive side of the ball in free agency.

They waste whatever cash they have on a RB and it will further reinforce the belief that the Saints will never be top caliber organization.
