Here I was about ready to forget how Nick Fairley was the dirtiest player in college football and an underacheiver in the pros. He's been a decent player for the Saints this year, but the Auburn Fairley finally emerged yesterday, with a stupid personal foul penalty in the final 2:00 that cost the Saints a reasonable chance at a final game winning drive. I don't know if he'll get fined by the league, but if I were Sean Payton, I'd fine him myself, maybe even bench him for a game. (When asked why J. Lairinitas was benched last week, Payton said, "I felt like it.") He needs to send a message while there is still time to turn things around on this season.
His mother passed. Still, he deserves to be benched and fined. But he is the only credible defensive player we have outside of Cam Jordan.
