I know that when a recruit is given a scholarship that the university or the athletic department pays for his lodging, food, books, ect. In regards to tuition does the athletic department actuall have to pay the university the tuition money or does it work like they simply waive the fee? If money does change hands is the fee higher for an out of state player than for a Louisiana player the same as it would be for a regular out of state student compared to a student from Louisiana.

I have always assumed that no fees were actually paid for tuition but I recently saw something about athletic scholarships costing Tulane more than they do LSU because of the higher tuition fees at Tulane.

Scholarship Money

I spoke with a coach from Clemson about this yesterday. He said that money for scholarships comes from the athletic budgets, so in essence, the athletic programs do pay the university. As for how much they pay, I've head that the schools only charge in-state tuition for all athletes.
