I hate when commentaters mention this. The homers for other teams always point out a player from a non SEC team and say the he should have a chip on his shoulder for all the talk about the SEC's speed. I, for one, never, ever hear anyone talking about our speed. Now, I figure SEC players are a little faster because generally the SEC has some of the best recruiting classes, but it isnt that big. Now team speed is a different story. So media, if a RB beats a CB to the corner, don't say everyone was pumping up the "SEC speed," because it doesnt happen. I just don't think announcers get the difference between a group of fast players and one player being fast. Yankee homers.:dis:
Even Fresno St's 0-coordinator talked up LSU's speed and said how our D's speed reminded him of a NFL team. It makes a huge difference.
Coach Callahan said the same thing about Auburn's defense...said it was as fast as any he's ever faced. I don't think the SEC speed thing is a myth. Not that other schools are recruiting slugs, but the SEC seems to have an inordinate number of the fast ones.
I worded it wrong. I know the team speed aspect. I meant I hated guys like Penn St's RB (sorry psu guy) who talked about one guy after beating him. I was making the remark based on FOX's awful comments. They watch one play with one player and remark about SEC speed. We all agree it is team defense and not 1 player.
